Constant dumping of rubbish, Hindmans Road

Hi there

Just wondering if anyone else is noticing and getting annoyed by the constant dumping of rubbish outside the Family Store on the corner of Upland and Hindmans Road?

This is an almost daily occurrence now. My guess is that the clothes and Southwark recycling bins are encouraging people to dump their crap here, although obviously that is no excuse. I have brought this up several times with the corner shop owners and they don't really seem that interested. There is a CCTV camera there, but it does not discourage anyone. I have also emailed [email protected] today to try and get something done longer term.

If anyone else has suggestions would be good to hear them. Is there a way of getting the bins removed?

A similar thing at the top of Ashbourne grove. Its infuriating. I'm filling in the council fly tipping form on a weekly basis. But there are no bins so I'm not sure getting rid of them will help on Hindmans. Once people see rubbish being dumped there it just becomes the place to ditch stuff.

Same used to happen on the corner of Colyton Road and Homestall Road. Recycling bins ended up being taken away, just like they were at the Dog Kennel Hill Sainsbury's. It seems that people cannot be trusted to use recycling facilities in a responsible way.

Swati, I've asked this question about neighbours' overflowing bins many, many times without the Council ever replying. Personally I think it should count as fly tipping.

I'm sick of the rubbish on my street as well as people using the pavement to store their bins and leaving rubbish next to their bins for foxes to pick through it and drag all over the road.

Get a grip, people.

Hi swati.clark,

Southwark aims to litter pick every street every two days. And sweep every street monthly.

If you feel this is not being adhered to please complain online here - https://forms.southwark.gov.uk/beta/ShowForm.asp?fm_fid=1541&np=1

Hi Monkey,

I'd follow the same link as above. Repeatedly. Failing that engage a local councillor to escalate.

NB. Sometimes rubbish is put in recycling or brown bin and then they do not get emptied. Is that the problem in this instance?

Hi Willard,

At some point the council will remove this recycling point as they've done from all large Southwark super market car parks for this very reason of dumping.

    • Yes, I think that’s exactly it. I’m sorry my post was unclear.
    • FH is so much greener and IMO nicer than ED, sorry. Less commercialised.  The Great North Wood, Hornimans Gardens, Brenchley Gardens, One Tree Hill ) yep, some of that borders ED, so split between the two)
    • Tesco sell pudding rice https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/254877391   And as for olive oil, my preference is the Spanish 2L cans in Sainsbury, it has a real nice peppery taste, not bland like the Italian one's I've tasted, but that's personal preference I suppose.
    • It feels like a group who don't believe that private motoring should be discouraged and have no answers to the air quality problem, whereas the original Cleanairdulwich are campaigning to reduce pollution. Sadly we live in a world where if you are rich, you will generally live in nicer houses, have nicer environments and cleaner air.  That is capitalism for you, but I doubt whether there would be greater health equality in the former Soviet Union either.  Dulwich village was once full of industrialists and the like who didn't want to live in polluted central London where most would have made their money.  I will contact Cleanairdulwich and hopefully provide a better perspective.  Whether it is one individual or a whole community I support agree with what they are doing.
