BARRY AREA RESIDENTS? ASSOCIATION (BARA) BARA's purpose is to promote community harmony, residents' rights and the improvement of housing conditions, amenities and the environment. BARA is recognised by Southwark Council to represent the interests of all residents in the Barry Area and members take an active part in consultations on planning, community safety and health provision. Members regularly attend and contribute to Ward and other local meetings. On the Local Housing Forum, BARA provides a key voice for Council tenants and leaseholders of street properties.

  7. We are one of a small number of local residents groups in Southwark, seeking to improve the lives of our local community. BARA meets once a month at the East Dulwich Community Centre in Darrell Road, The past 2 years has seen the importance of communities and the need to be part of a local organisation. Please see the attachment for details of our association and date of AGM.

BARA MEMBERSHIP Council tenants and leaseholders contribute through their rent and service charges to the Tenant Fund. BARA receives a grant from the Tenant Fund, and those Fund payers can join BARA with no membership fee. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, we continue to extend free membership for all for this year. Any Southwark resident, from outside of the BARA area, is welcome to join BARA as an associate member.
