I like having a cinema on my doorstep that shows more interesting films than a multiplex. I'm glad a great bakery and cafe opened down the road from me, and employs local people. For the matter, I applaud all the independent shops and businesses around here even when they're not my cup of tea. It takes guts to start your own business. I also expect to pay more for higher quality, if something's not made in a factory, or someone doesn't have a big company backing them to artifically keep prices low. I like going to pubs, including ones with children in them. I for one think there's room for 'old' and 'new' East Dulwich, and that it'd be a far duller place without the 'new'.

We could do with taking a year off from cooking lunch on Christmas Day. Does anyone know if any pubs and restaurants open in East Dulwich or nearby? Thanks a lot.

Agree with mrsilenco. Car2go isn't the reason you can't park. That's because people own too many cars to start with. Car pooling is a pretty sensible way of cutting the amount of cars on the road. I use zipcar, but if I bought a car that'd make the situation worse. For what it's worth, I don't see that car pool drivrs are more inconsiderate. Especially when some owners get territorial about wanting to park right outside their house. I rarely can park outside my own home when I hire one either. Also, car pooling is already catching on. I often can't get the one nearest to me or ocassionally at all. That's why there are so many of them. They have to enough of them on the street so it's not completely impractical and so people don't go back to buying their own car if they don't one.

I tried here this week. I think it depends what you mean by 'good coffee'. The best coffee I've found nearby (roughly in order) have been at: 1. Browns of Brockley 2. General Store, Bellenden Rd 3. Cafe Viva near Peckham Rye station 4. Dish and Spoon - on a good day. I know St David's in Forest Hill is supposed to do good coffee but I've never tried it. But the point is, by those standards I've yet to find a really decent coffee in East Dulwich (yet). The cafe looked nice enough otherwise...
