I?m posting a recommendation for our son?s brilliant guitar tutor, Will Shackleton, who is keen to take on more private teaching work. He has been teaching our eldest son for the last year and he has loved learning with him. Will is very patient and has a sense of fun that makes him really engaging when teaching. Will studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford and has worked as a professional guitarist with many artists including Carrie Underwood, Ronan Keating, Aloe Blacc, Donovan Frankenreiter, The Tenors, Kevin Simm, Stevie McCrorie, Tunde Baiyewu (The Lighthouse Family) and many more. If anyone is looking for a cleaner, I can't recommend ours more highly. He's called Leandro and comes with his sister, Nalia (both Brazilian). They have been cleaning for me for 5 years (along with a number of my friends) and do an amazing job of transforming our family home each week. They currently have a few hours spare each week so if you need a new cleaner, I have nothing but praise for them. They are ?12 an hour each - I have 5 hours so a total of 2.5 hours/?60. Both are very gentle, kind people and a delight to have around. I've even left my youngest with them for a school pick up. They are entirely trustworthy and reliable, and happy to accommodate if ever I need a change of our usual cleaning day. We have just had an absolutely superb experience with Sky High Builders, who have built our stunning new loft bedroom and ensuite. Marvin project managed the build for us and nothing was too much trouble for him. He managed everything brilliantly from start to finish. His level of customer service is second to none and he genuinely cares about doing an impeccable job. If Marvin wasn't among the team working on site that day, he made sure he was there every morning to inform about the progress of the build. Marvin's motto is "the client's always right" and he will do all he can to ensure his clients are happy with the job. He had some brilliant ideas for the design of our loft, and as a result we have a stunning and unique new space. In terms of the quality of the build, the team at Sky High have very high standards, which was just what we were after as I confess to being a bit of a perfectionist. All the team take great pride in doing a good job and they are all a delight to have around on site. Every step of the way my husband and I felt so thankful we'd taken on Sky High for the job. This happened to our elderly neighbour yesterday on Herne Hill Rd. We have scaffolding up and some dodgy 'builders' knocked on her door and said they were had noticed problems with our job that might result in damage to her property if she didn't cough up. They wanted ?900 and said they'd come back to fix it once they had the correct machine. She only had ?300 so paid them that. We of course feel terribly guilty now and will repay some of the lost money. She's so frail and elderly. There really are some nasty folk out there!

I would like to add my reccomendation for HomeCert. One of the company's electricians, Paul, came to do some work for me yesterday and I was very pleased with the service. Paul fitted two ceiling chandeliers, replaced a faulty dimmer and refitted a loose plug socket. He was punctual and efficient, and tidied up all mess as he went (which was very helpful considering I had two small children in the house). I also asked Paul for advice on new lighting for our garden. He had lots of good suggestions and clearly a great deal of experience in this field. The company regularly install new garden lighting systems for clients, so he was able to suggest what types of lights might work for our situation. We will definitely use HomeCert again and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

On Sunday night my hot water pump stopped working so i looked on EDF for a plumber recommendation. I contacted Francis after reading his rave reviews but unfortunately he really let me down. He said he would come by at 8am on Monday morning, then he texted to say he'd be with me by 8:15. He kept delaying until eventually I called him at 8:35 as I couldn't delay going to work any longer. He said he had been held up but was very unapologetic. We agreed he'd come at 5:30 after I finished work. I raced back early from work. I sent a text saying I was 5 minutes late and he said he'd had to leave already. In the end I turned up earlier than expected and there was definitely nobody standing on my doorstep. When your hot water breaks down in winter and you have a toddler you need to know the plumber you've called will stick to his word and not let you down repeatedly at short notice. All in all very disappointing.
