There is no conspiracy to force you from the forum. The only reason you'd be banned or asked to leave is a persistent infringement of the rules.

I continue to encourage all posters to make their missives thoughtful and genuine additions to debates rather than snipes and sneers.

The Chair is displeased. His Drawing Room appears to have become a creche.

For this, The Chair blames no one but himself. For too long his laissez-faire attitude, his live-and-let-live policies - which were meant to allow free debate and to treat everyone like an adult - have allowed offenders to go unpunished. The result is ugly and pernicious. The Chair will therefore pledge to change. To improve himself.

It is really very simple. Do not abuse others. If you cannot win an argument, accept it without resorting to insults. If you do not you will be expelled. There will be no warnings. Judgement will be arbitrary and without mercy. I want to see passion. I want to see vigour. I do not want to see petty arguments played out in front of the class.

In the past I have been a benevolent Chair. I have allowed threads to divert from their original scope in oder to foster debate. I have allowed passionate rhetoric in order to nuture radical ideas. I have even tolerated bad language when done with panache.

But some people on here are testing my patience.

I will not tolerate any further personal insults nor persistent bickering. This is meant to be a wood-panelled Drawing Room for sophisticated debate whilst drinking brandy. Some of you seem to have over-indulged.

It is not the Oxford Union so stop behaving like students.

If this is going to remain in the Drawing Room, I'd prefer it became a sensible debate about the Olympics. Squirrel conservation seems a little narrow.

If the OP would like to alter the title of the thread or else it may be moved to the Lounge for further "larks" and discussion of fluffy rodents.

Whilst not wishing to "feed a troll", as Chair I feel the need to intervene here.

This is the Drawing Room. It is a place with the intent of provoking intelligent, reasoned, well-informed and rational debate. It is not the BBC's 'Have Your Say'.

Posters who continually post unintelligent, ill-reasoned, ill-informed and irrational nonsense (I'm looking at you, Tarot) will not be welcomed here.

There are two sides to the debate on immigration and I'd welcome further exploration of that here. I will not tolerate borderline racist, islamophobic bigotry. Continued infringement of these guidelines will result in the deletion of posts, threads and at worst prohibit access to the Drawing Room.
