  1. Over the summer, Gary and his team did a complete refurb of our bathroom. It was a complicated, and fiddly job, with architects drawings to follow, and the inevitable surprises thrown up when you rip out a room in a Victorian house! He worked through the challenges with us as they happened, and we’re really pleased with the finished result. He has some really good guys working for him, and the quality of tiling etc has been great.

  2. Yes I can second what's been said above - we applied last year (and live at the Anstey end of Nutbrook St) and were initially 49 on the waiting list; whereas this year, another family equidistant are right at the top of the list already.
  3. Can someone clarify if you were to do a hyper local journey in ED/PR that didn't involving crossing the South Circular would it def involve being charged every time? Are there loads of cameras within the zone itself?! I should know this.... and I will soon find out (!) but obviously we use the car relatively little as it is, just wondering re these occasional journeys i need to do.
  4. I'm interested in understanding the preferred methods of transport, particularly in Yr 7 from kids living at the Peckham Rye end of East Dulwich.

For now my son is signed up to the school bus, which seems to work quite well in the morning. After school you seem to have sit and wait for 30-40 minutes before it leaves, though.

Cycling seems the way forward, I think we need to build his confidence a bit and then aim to switch to that.

Thanks in advance for any experiences.

  5. Our experience of the music scholarship tests were that they were fairly rigorous, and with hindsight I probably shouldn't have put my son through it as he wasn't quite at the standard required. However, I don't think it's all grade-based, more about natural ability - though there was quite a big theory element to the process (from what little I could get out of my son afterwards!).
  6. I was under the impression the first big shakedown of lists would be happening between initial allocations and next Monday 15th, when I think we get updated waiting list positions.

I may start a separate thread in due course when I know more about waiting lists, but in the meantime am interested in hearing from anyone via DM who has been allocated HBAED.

  7. I would just like to add a recommendation for Niko - he came out at short notice and fixed a broken toilet with an integrated sink. He was really friendly and helpful, and reasonably priced - and I would not hesitate to use him again. I am really glad to have found someone who is responsive, helpful and really reliable.
  8. Hi @midivydale - your post meant I just spotted this thread again and my input from 2016 - no huge changes here, in that managing emotions continues to be an issue for the now nearly-9 year old! Always interested to hear from other people how they handle it, especially when it manifests as major rudeness to us - I find we are constantly trying to balance the need to manage the unacceptable rudeness, with empathising with the big emotions that he's trying to process. It's a balance I struggle with much of the time, and my husband really struggles with it too - often causing them in particular to be at loggerheads.

Our boy has become self-aware enough that recently he's decided he doesn't want to use the (very limited) time he's allowed at the weekend playing games on the iPad as he can see that it makes him so stressed/furious if it doesn't go to plan. This may pass, but I'm enjoying that while it lasts! An unusual example of self-awareness and self-regulation.

  9. I have a great cleaner who I can't really keep on for the next 2-3 months while we have some work done. She may be able to help long term, but for now I would love to find someone to take our slot which is weekly for 3 hours - about 8.45-11.45 on a Wednesday, for at least a couple of months. Ideally you'd be somewhere close to Peckham Rye.

We pay her ?11 per hour.

    Please PM me if interested.

    Thanks.

  10. We are having some building work done and cannot really justify keeping on our cleaner for the next couple of months, but I don't want to leave her in the lurch.

If you are interested in taking our slot and you live in reasonable access of Peckham Rye (ideally) then please let me know. We pay her ?11/hr and she does ironing and cleaning for 3 hours 8.45-11.45am on a Wednesday morning.

Let me know if you would like to find out more. If it works out well for you she may be able to fit you in longer term, but would be perfect for someone looking for something for 2-3 months.

    Thanks

    Anna
