Day 1 will cover demonstrations and practice in throwing a variety of galleries and lids, including throwing lids off the hump and the use of callipers for measuring. Day 2 will cover trimming, including how to make knobs through trimming and throwing. If time allows, we may cover attaching side lugs and handles. You can choose up to six lidded pots which will be glazed and fired for you. Please note that This course will not cover the basics of centering, pulling up or trimming. Participants need to be comfortable with these skills before signing up to the course. The teacher - Clare Spindler Clare’s creative focus is functional ceramics in stoneware and porcelain, fired in oxidation and reduction. While the majority of Clare’s work is wheel-thrown, she also produces decorative pieces combining thrown, altered and hand-built components. Clare is the studio manager at In Production from Turning Earth, a communal studio for professional makers based in Leyton. She is also a teacher at Turning Earth and Crown Works Pottery.

No previous experience with clay is required. This is cross-generational: 11-17s can attend with an accompanying adult. You will Roll out and cut paper porcelain to make fine Christmas decorations and tealight holders You can choose ten porcelain decorations and one or two porcelain tealight holders, which will be fired for you unglazed. untilPortrait modelling from the life model, a 2-day weekend course, suitable for all levels During the 2-day workshop you will, with guidance and demonstrations from your tutor: Model a small figure (approximately ¼ life size) in Terracotta. Build up a basic form in clay. Learn about proportions of the body, and how to reproduce them to scale. Use modelling tools to construct and shape the limbs and other details. Create surface details: hair, skin etc. Finish and prepare the piece for the kiln. His work explores both figurative, geometric and organic subjects with emphasis on process: construction, throwing, casting and fabrication, thus creating rhythms, textures and forms. These are expressed through the treatment of a variety of media. Most often he employs ceramics but he also combines constructed metals and found objects. Since 2014 we have generated green electricity from solar installations on community buildings and retrofitted LED lighting to save our partners money and reduce their carbon footprint. We are just about to launch our biggest share offer yet – raising £450,000 for seven (solar and LED) projects in the London boroughs of Southwark and Bexley.
