untilTickets: https://wegottickets.com/thegooseisout JackDaw is an acoustic gathering of Rob Anderson, Gaby Szabo and Lyle Zimmerman. Sometimes joined by Charlie Austen and/or other friends, they play a combination of songs written by Rob, his old bandmate, cult 1970’s Oregon songwriter Wayne Drury, and beloved others. The 2023 release, ‘Ghost InThe Big House’, began as a lockdown project with Rob working out songs, emailing vocal and acoustic guitar tracks to Lyle, who sandpapered, waxed and weeded a band-and-a-half’s-worth of dusty twang and jangle from his home studio’s instrument menagerie. Drums from Jay Shaw and Dan Purtell and plush harmonies from Gaby, Charlie and Lizzy O’Connor, were added, ending up with an album that RnR magazine described as “Neil Young reworking the Rolling Stones’ ‘Wild Horses’”. Their intimate live performances strip the songs down and bring forward dusty roots and harmonies. RnR magazine... Four stars…dusty but lucid high desert stories” Americana-UK magazine November 2023 - “ A joyful confident album … a sage-like quality to the songs” https://fb.watch/y6ZNYnd2cI/ Steeped in myth and mystery Jack Harris's songs bring the narrative tradition of folk and blues music into the here and now. His debut album 'Broken Yellow' received great acclaim in song- writing circles. Influenced by the old country blues masters (and folk singers of the British Isles), his performances are a riveting display of soulful, smoky vocals and intricate, finger-style guitar playing. "Jack Harris is a priest of song who holds himself to a rigorous ancient code of beauty most of us have forgotten exists" - Anais Mitchell https://youtu.be/ZlyiriRai0U?si=GLzoWRX6dwJZSHKC Dan Raza has kindly agreed to replace Joe Wilkes who can no longer do the gig. Plucked while still a student to tour with Joan Armatrading, and championed by Neil Young on his ‘Living With War’ website, Dan Raza has spent the first chapter of his career weaving folk troubadour magic around the clubs and halls of the UK, America and Europe while quietly building a reputation as one of the UK’s best-kept musical secrets. ‘The real deal’ – Huey Morgan, BBC Radio 2 “Killer songs” -Tom Paxton “A writer who has matured into one of this country’s finest” – Country Music Magazine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gznPmeFFD3U

John Kirkpatrick, Lucy & Hazel, Matt Milton
The Goose Is Out! posted an event in Art, Music and Drama
untilTickets: https://wegottickets.com/thegooseisout We're delighted to have John returning to The Goose! Tonight will be the LONDON LAUNCH OF HIS NEW SHOW "200 YEARS OF THE SQUEEZEBOX"! "Folk music" as we think of it was the popular music of the people when those songs were originally written, and John will be highlighting the hits of the day from the time that squeezeboxes first appeared in the 1820s! Expect a fantastic variety of tunes and songs ranging way beyond John's usual "folk roots"! They will include themes from the classics, well-loved songs, dance music of all kinds and the occasional lugubrious hymn by way of contrast, all played in John's inimitable style on the Anglo Concertina, the Melodeon and the Button Accordion! https://youtu.be/8zSa1eElxNE?si=SWFc6ruUQT4ORGZa "Lucy & Hazel are surely the queens of the new vibe of British folk to be emerging from the radical activist left. Folk music just got very exciting!" - Sam Lee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mP3xB5CPOY4&t=21s Matt Milton sings traditional folk and blues songs, and plays guitar, fiddle and banjo. He has played in many folk clubs all over London, and has supported John Kirkpatrick, Andy Irvine and many other well known figures in the folk world. https://youtu.be/2sgCwf1YLgQ?si=oS11cMX9eUd4hhAV -

untilTickets: https://www.wegottickets.com/thegooseisout Due to unforeseen circumstances this gig has been cancelled. We are sorry for any disappointment and we hope to see you at The Ivy House soon. Damien Barber is a stylish and distinctive singer, be it unaccompanied or alongside his guitar or concertina. Though he has now lived for some time in West Yorkshire, his roots remain firmly planted in his beloved East Anglia. Mike Wilson is the youngest member of the inimitable Wilson Family, the powerful Teesside singing siblings who have raised the rafters at many a festival and folk club event over the years. His musical heritage remains emphatically that of the North East – an evocative mixture of rural and industrial folk songs, both traditional and modern. Together, Damien and Mike have an incredibly rich shared repertoire of traditional songs from around the country, plus the work of modern folk writers such as Peter Bellamy, Ewan MacColl and Mike Waterson. They are two of the most powerful traditional voices in the UK today. Creeping Jane is/are Nyge and Sue, who have been running The Goose Is Out! since 2008. They sing unaccompanied in unison and harmony, mainly but not solely traditional folk songs from the UK. James Eagle is a past winner of Islington Folk Club's Trad2Mad competition. He is a regular at the Goose monthly singarounds, both as a wonderful singer and also often as a familiar face on the door! He also edits Folk London magazine!

Described by Folk Radio as “one of the most exciting and accomplished English folk acts on the scene right now”, this outstanding trio can hold audiences in the palm of their hand. “Their high-octane take on English folk has brought a whole new audience to the genre” - The Irish Times “Great tunes, great energy, great arrangements, great stuff!” - Jon Boden “A superb folk trio” - RNR Magazine “Traditional folk music taken far beyond its parameters” - Tykes News Rob Quo & Pearl Fish are a captivating contemporary roots duo. untilWe are delighted to be welcoming Phil Beer back to the Goose! Phil Beer "plays guitar and fiddle and sings a bit". These are his words, not ours! He has been doing this extremely well for over 45 years as a solo artist, a collaborator, and as part of the highly successful Show of Hands. Phil first began to play fiddle, guitar and mandolin whilst still at school in Teignmouth, Devon. This passion for acoustic music was especially stirred by the Davy (later known as Davey) Graham album Folk, Blues and Beyond. "A Phil Beer gig is one spent in the company of a true craftsman, a master musician and a consummate performer" - Spiral Earth (and who are we to disagree?!) https://youtu.be/xCikocuaEe4?si=w5lNqG5NMdNoBPTj https://youtu.be/6bgY7nK98B8?si=-ZkUSf-vHr-vizFY James is an unaccompanied singer on the London club scene, as well as editor of Folk London magazine. This, his first album, is a collection of favourites old and new: working life, war, love, loss and jealousy. https://folklondon.bandcamp.com/album/after-so-many-gone Creeping Jane are Nygel & Sue, who started The Goose Is Out! In 2008 and have been running it ever since. They sing unaccompanied, both in unison and in harmony, mainly songs from the UK. At The Ivy House, London’s first community-owned pub. Tickets are £16 advance, £18 on the door (cash or BACS only) Door 7pm. Live music starts 8pm and finishes 11pm. This concert will be half seated, half standing, so come early if you want to be sure of a seat! untilT We are delighted to be welcoming Martin Simpson back to the Goose! Universally acclaimed as one of the finest ever acoustic and slide guitar players, and a fine banjo-picker to boot, Martin's solo shows bear witness to an artist at the very top of his game. Whether interpreting material from tradition or singing his own potent songs (such as "Never any Good", about his father), he is a remarkable storyteller: captivating and profoundly moving. https://martinsimpson.com/ https://youtu.be/Xh6eWlr7hYM?si=FBpfLUNX1ITe4whD https://youtu.be/HJsnZu3_Yug?si=IWRtsnITiMu9HcBi Rob Anderson, who hails originally from Oregon USA, is a fine songwriter. Apart from his own songs, in recent years he has been committed to keeping the songs of his old songwriting partner Wayne Drury in circulation, in both The Wayne Drury project and most recently with Jackdaw. https://folking.com/tag/jackdaw/ Maverick Magazine says of Rob he has “…an authentic feeling of Willie Nelson or Waylon Jennings”. Jackdaw's recent album has been receiving rave reviews from everybody who has reviewed it. Hailing from Kent, Steve Hewitt is an emerging singer songwriter with a strong Americana influence who is pushing the boundaries of folk-roots. You can find out more info about the Singarounds here. https://www.thegooseisout.com/faq Local film-maker Tom Garmeson will be filming at this Singaround. If you don't wish to be filmed please speak with Tom or ourselves. Here is a short statement from Tom. "I'm making a short observational documentary about the Ivy House which will celebrate the pub as a place for the local community to come together. My plan is for the film to play out almost as a day in the life of the pub - we'll see the huge variety of events which go on each week, the comings and goings of regulars, and the day to day processes involved in running a vibrant London pub. Ultimately I want the film to serve as a reminder that in modern Britain, where it's increasingly common to feel disconnected from one's local community, it's more important than ever to preserve physical spaces where everyone is welcome."
