  1. Hi, I've recently had the test for the brca gene mutation and had a positive result for BRCA 1. I have a long family history of both breast and ovarian cancer and planning to have a preventative oophorectomy and double mastectomy in the not too distant future. There are lots of support groups out there however I am wondering if there are any other ladies locally who are in the same boat and part of this small group and who might like to get together for coffee? It would be lovely to meet others facing the same issues of surgery, telling children, surgical menopause etc etc! Please pm me if interested. Anna X
  2. Hi, about 3.45 this afternoon we had a knock at the door - 3 young girls about 15 years old demanding money. We weren't in but my poor mother in law who was on her own answered and said they kept on knocking until she had to threaten to call the police. My mil's quite an assertive lady and not easily scared, but said these girls were quite aggressive, being right up at the door and kept knocking despite bring told she didn't have anything. We're off the bellenden road and have never experienced any threatening behaviour in the area before, just wondering if anyone else had a run in with this group today? Many thanks
  3. Can't believe how many of us have joined this thread! Really looking forward to meeting those that can make it on the 17th and big thanks to sunlover for getting us organised. Also would be great to meet up with anyone who's around during the week. We can do most Mon, Tues and weds afternoons. We've been to the new sandpit and waterjets at Brockwell Park which are fantastic for little ones and there's plenty of space for pic nic blankets etc. What about Monday 27th or Wednesday 29th?

If anyone's about, my email is [email protected]

  4. Susyp and bee74 I empathise with you enormously - my little girl started showing signs of aggressive behaviour when she was about 14 months, especially towards her cousin, which was played out in front of all of our extended family on a big family holiday over 6 days...I felt so hideous and ended up in tears by the end. The hitting/pushing went on for 9 months or so and no one was exempt from her (seemingly) wilful & impulsive behaviour, especially her dad in the morning who went to work with cat-like scratches on his face for a good 6 months.

When I managed to control my emotions about the situation (when it started to get better) and relax I encouraged the victims, their parents, my friends etc. if they saw her hit or push, to discipline her as I felt it would be good to get a consistent message from people other than me. The wonderful ladies at Magic Moments, Tessa in particular, were amazing at helping us through this difficult stage (she started when she was 18 months and is now 26 months) being consistent with her and reassuring me every time I went to pick her up.

My girl is now at another nursery and where she tried to continue hitting/pushing but this was soon eradicated (perhaps it was at the end of the "stage", plus she was excluded from the group if caught - I think this, in front of new peers probably expedited the end of it).

I still feel her behaviour is such an irony because she is so demonstrably loving and kind; she loves to hug and kiss and interact with everyone she meets.

  5. avondale rise off bellenden road has just gone off completely. Thames water say that they have switched off the water main on Colyton Road, south side of peckham rye park and it may up to 6 hours until it's fixed. Quicker than that I hope, my thermostat is saying it's down to 15 degrees in my house already! ps avondale rise is closed to traffic as it's an icerink and has had 2 p13 buses blocking it since 6.30 this morning.
