  1. For The Love of Scrubs is a national campaign set up by sewers all over the country to supply our absolutely phenomenal NHS with scrubs, laundry bags and caps to make up for the shortfall of PPE available through other channels.

There are sub-groups all over the country who need your support! Could I please, please ask all of you to share my post so that we can spread the message far and wide!

Your contributions, however small, help us make a difference - please give what you can.

  2. Hi there,

the second WI in East Dulwich is now up and running!

Our meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at the Dulwich Constitutional Club, 33 East Dulwich Grove, SE22. (almost opposite East Dulwich Hospital)

Bar opens at 7 for drinks and closes at 9

    Meeting is 7.30 - 9.30

Most ladies start arriving just after 7pm to get a drink, some nibbles and get comfy before the meeting starts.

Membership is ?41 per year and you would be most welcome to come along three times as a non member for a fee of ?3.00 per meeting plus any other material costs ie if there is a 'make'n'take' and then join if you?d like to. Currently we have around 60 members and our maximum capacity is 130 members!

We have only just begun so it?s all a great big new exciting learning curve, and I'm really proud and honoured to have been elected President. The newly elected Committee has been beavering away behind the scenes and we already have a wide variety of events already planned for the coming year, so I'm sure there will be something to interest everyone.

Members are welcome to come along (guests are welcome) to just socialise and have a bit of 'me time' if they don't wish to attend the event being held. We have a separate cosy seating area set up specifically for this.

At our meeting on 12th March we plan to mark International Women?s Day with Second World War coder Barbara Hall MBE, as our guest speaker. The 95-year-old, who is also Britain?s longest serving crossword compiler, will be interviewed by Phil Reed OBE, the former director of the Churchill War Rooms.

Barbara will talk about her time as a coder in the Wrens during the Second World War as well as her 36-year career as the crossword puzzles editor for The Sunday Times. South London local Barbara got her first contract to write crosswords aged just 14, when she won a national newspaper competition. She then served in the Wrens during World War Two at Great Yarmouth and Borstal, coding messages for the Navy and reading the weather reports transmitted in code to all Navy ships.

So why not come along on the 12th March and give us try, relax with a drink and cake (of course) and, hopefully, make some new friends.

  3. Hi there,

The second Women?s Institute in East Dulwich is now up and running! I?d just like to take this opportunity to thank all those ladies from the ED forum who expressed interest in a new WI, who supported us through the setup period and eventually joined as members. Hat?s off to you ladies!

If you?d like more info please head on over to the ?What?s on in East Dulwich? section of the forum. We are soooo much more than Jam and Jerusalem!

  4. Thanks to the amazing response for a 2nd ED WI to be set up I am closing the email membership list this Friday. If any ladies out there would still like to register their interest in joining a 2nd WI please pm me before Friday so that I can add you to the list. We only have a few more spacesleft and I would hate for anyone to miss out.If everyone who has registered their interest in joining actually becomes a member of the new WI we will start the new year with a full membership and have to start our own waiting list. Many thanks to everyone who has signed up!
  5. Hi everyone, just a quick update to let you know that we are fast approaching the cut off cap for the 2nd ED WI mailing list. If anyone is still interested in joining a second ED WI could you please pm me your details so that I can add you to the list. Thanks to everyone who has already signed up, the response has been amazing!
  6. Just wanted to say thank you for the amazing response I have had and to let you all know that the mailing list is growing at an incredible rate (I never dreamed it would be so popular!). Once it reaches 100 I think I will have to

close the list until we are up and running otherwise we will be over subscribed before we start! But it's a nice

    problem to have! Thanks everyone!

  7. First of all I would just like to say how overwhelmed and chuffed I am by the response to my earlier thread. I've started a new thread about this as the other one is getting rather long! Could ALL ladies who would like to

register their interest in the new WI group please private message me with contact details as we're hoping to

have our first meet towards the end of September. I know a lot of you have already done this but several ladies have

said they are interested but I have no way of contacting them. Many thanks.

  8. OK Ladies! - I had my meeting with the existing ED WI - all very positive! Could all of you who would like to register their interest in joining please private message me with their contact details! We are looking to hold an event towards the end of September beginning of October. I am soooo pleased!!!!!
  9. Hi all, I contacted the East Dulwich Community centre directly and although they have no craft or quilting club there at the moment they were more than happy for one to start up. So if you're interested please let me know. Thanks
