  1. All criminal confessions are untrue. They confess to all crimes in order to foster the idea that one act of thoughtcrime will lead to more - that any single act of thoughtcrime is the 'gateway drug' which will inevitably lead to all the others.

Hi Huggers, the plans for the depot would have taken out the Copeland industrial estate that is between Rye Lane and Bournemouth Road, the housing estate would not have been affected by the depot in terms of pulling any of the houses down, and additional retail spaces were planned along the Bournemouth road section.

I do know that the Peckham Vision group tried to raise the question of noise for this estate, the issue of shards of metal in the air from re-profiling the wheels and other things like that, but all of those issues were positively addressed by TfL/CrossRiver at the time. In terms of just a big depot in the town center, the PTCMG did discuss the concept of an enclosed depot, with retail / office or residential units above (much like Victoria / Charring Cross stations) and this wasn't ruled out.

But in essence you are correct, the lack of funding has mothballed the scheme, although Southwark Council and others are still looking at ways of making the first stages of the development happen.

Sadly the economic and physical regeneration that the tram would have brought to Peckham may now need to happen in other ways (including the increase in footfall from the East London line)

  4. Went to the Rye last night for a quick (ahem) beer and to have a look at the new decor and style.

I personally liked it, it has made the place a bit more funky without going over the top, the drinks are the same (thankfully) as is most of the food menu (some new dishes last night)

However I am curious to see what other people think of the new look

  5. I love adverts that stir up debate, that after all is what they are all about

Remember the Wondabra "Hello Boys" Advert, got people talking about the product!

Who can't think of flying from birth to grave in the Xbox live adverts on the television?

By Wolfie talking about these adverts they have achieved their aim, to make the advert stick in your mind, to make you talk about it and to pass the information on to others. I do agree that the subject matter is a problem and that there is a risk that the young or easily influenced will pick up and act on the adverts but that is how they work.

Now the one that fascinates me is on Smooth Radio at the moment for 'mybreasts.org' every time I hear it I crack up.

  6. Tonight I popped into the Clockhouse for a cheeky one after a long afternoon, and discovered that they are doing a new theme night for Wednesdays

Forget Orange Wednesday (fat Orange bloke slapping you twice for your tango I think)

The Clockhouse has introduced Wii Wednesdays where you can go, get a pint and play on their Wii with your friends

    Apparently they have

. Mario and Sonic at the olympics (a real head rush when you do the sprinting)

    . Mario Kart

    . Wii Sport

Now I have to say, a while ago we tried to do an online Mario Kart night, but doing it in the pub with other forumites AND beer as well... what more can you ask for

Anyone fancy a race one Wednesday night ?

  7. Good Post Mikecg

I met Ronnie James Dio once, at one of his 'Dio' Concerts... lovely man and still got most of his albums

But is it Rock and Roll or is it Rock ?

  8. I was there

I could tell you what happened but then I would have to 'silence' you afterwards

Needless to say, Cllr Mark Glover has moved that they discuss the parking issue directly with the executive of the council (a written report was preseneted claiming that Parking in Peckham is cost effective, but no idea on how much it raises, what the spend on Parkign maintenance is and the officer presenting claimed that there has not been a rise in prices since 2007, however with weekends and evenings no longer free then that obviously isn't true), the Peckham Area Action Plan was announced (consultation starts at the end of March) and No comments were made about the Dog Control order.

Oh and some community budget underfund was reallocated.

The Fixed Penalty Notice information explained why you can get one and how to appeal (not exciting and no time for questions)

New traffic calming and crossings were announced, although there is more consultation to be done (2 new zebras at the Peckham Rye end of Rye Lane to make it safer to get across the 'big island') and I then snuck out before the Wardens report (although it is in the pack) and the general question time

Now I need to follow up on my threat earlier and make sure you don't tell anyone else !!!

Sid the Sexist taught me all I know !!!

  10. Sadly - the only one I can think of for you Jeremy is

"Do you fancy getting your lips around something really meaty (mid length pause) like a cup of Bovril"

Tillie - I am worried about you, to do that implies it is 'nude night' at the baths....

Jimmy I can see your problem here, but you could have said to her that you need a Tea/Coffee/Bovril and Packet of Crisps after a swim and did she care to join you?

At which point she may well have told you that your ultra tight white speedos are see through when wet (ultimate put down from my youth) but at least you had tried

  13. I just installed Opera 10 Alpha and it has spelling checker in it (automatically) and some other new features that I am about to play with...

So far I would recommend it over ie 8 (which I installed last week)
