  1. this is actually turning into a fascinating and amusingly blatant thread.

Mother - edf's version "yummy mummy"

    Whore - edf's version "tart"

    Bitch - edf's version "guardian-reading-feminist"

which box is it to be 'girls'?

    :)

  2. I have a son exactly like yours, I fell pregnant with boy 2 (sex determind early on due to CVS). Booked straight onto the raising boys course (which btw is highly critical of the book!)

I found it super helpful but now that son 2 has arrived, I've been surprised by the difference in him w/out using any tricks from the RB course. He runs up to me wanting to read books, whereas son 1 thinks everything is 'boring' if it's not climbing or running.

So I think it's a lot to do w personality.

Son 1 walked at 7 months, legging it around by 1 year. Son 2 only just starting to walk at 1.5yrs... It's been a dream this time round!

It'll just take more patience and prob more hands on help/tutoring to support your more active son...

Ps my sister has 4x kids and her girl is like my son 1. So it's not just a girl/boy thing, but personality. She literally can't sit still :/

  3. if we are to believe in "supply and demand" dictating house prices, then East Dulwich clearly is not one of the most desirable place to live in London. In fact it lies quite low on the list versus other boroughs.

a lot of journalists live round here, of child bearing age... so it fits their criteria

I personally like the area as it suits my own personal needs, but to say it's the most desirable area makes me question their judgement.

    it's a relatively 'cheap' area.

    entertaining read though.

also, anyone who wants prices to go up is kidding themselves. Unless you're living in your forever house (which most ppl aren't) then we're the fools...

moreover, if you're in your dream home and you have kids... your kids are unlikely to benefit as they'll struggle to match their upbringing when you divide with your siblings and after tax

it's a false economy. nothing is good about house prices going up imo

  4. What we're experiencing is the direct result of government and central bank intervention.

Had the government or government appointed central banks (not just ours, but globally ie the Fed etc) not pumped the system with SOOOO much liquidity, I doubt this asset bubble would be happening. It's not just East Dulwich, it's not just London (New York, Singapore), it's not just house prices (equities).

Governments around the world sent a message out that they would underwrite the 'markets' when the capitalist model failed in 2008/09. They have made debt almost free and printed money which has thrown petrol on the fire.

It's unpredictable how this will all end

  5. But you're looking at things on an absolute basis

When you look at the stats, borrowing levels are still lower than 2007.

Current house prices are showing a sort of catch-up trade.

Governments around the world have been printing masses of money. There's nowhere to put it.

Equities are flying and could go much higher. It's not just london. Its sydney, singapore, new york etc.

    Money is cheap

    Debt is cheap

    This is the result

  6. I agree. Most ppl couldn't afford anything like these prices, if **they weren't selling in the first place**

What worries me is that we're getting to a stage where there are 'haves' and 'have nots' ie Land-owners and non-land-owners. Like olden times!

Scary. Even if youre on the ladder now, chances are your kids won't ever be... Sad.

All this is really only London

I'm still in the hope-camp that it pops soon

  7. Hello,

We haven't filled ours in yet as we're about to move house so we're not yet living at the new address currently - hence leaving it last minute.

Is the online application super straight forward?

Anything we need to watch for or mistakes people have made and can share on here.

We're selling up and moving for a school we love. Sods law I screw up the online application!

Slightly stupid request but wanted to ask.
