  1. we are all screwed by the system, but what are you going to do about it????????????? Nothing, because the LEA work on the basis of the distance of your home to school. Really there is not a choice of schools for parents as the LEA decide what schools your child goes unless you are prepared to appeal. So.....the answer to your statement is that you choose your nearest school which you are most likey to be offered anyway that way when your offered the place you don't feel screwed!!
  2. yes you are right to say that, but normally the LEA will allocate a place at the childs nearest school. The problem is that all the good schools in ED are over subscried. I have meationed this before on this thread that parents should look into other schools that may onle have a satisfactory grade by OFSTED. OFSTED should only be used as a guideline and not be taken as gospel because some of the inspectors have no common sense and cannot really grade somewhere over a two day period. I feel too many parents in the ED and other border areas want the schools like Rosendale, Eliot Bank, and Fairlawn; In which case we all know taht the schools are way oversubscribed. If your nearset primary school happens to be graded satifactory or good you should choose that school;once in, join the parent society and make a difference for heaven sake!
  3. prdarling - you are stressing far too much! As stated previously - put your child on a waiting list and you may be offered a place within weeks. It sounds like you are not happy unless you are stressed (especially as you have been worried since January). If you didn't really want your 3rd of 4th choice of school you should have simply not listed them in the first instance, and just stuck with the two that you really wanted. It is totally pointless listing a school as the LEA will just assume that this is a school you wanted, and in their eyes feel they would have met your needs.
  4. This whole school chaos really annoys me. Most of all you parents that live on the border of southwark and lewisham try and take all the places availalble at Fairlawn or Eliot Bank which are both outstanding schools. What really annoys me is that all the toffee-nosed parents come from the East Dulwich area and try to get a space for their child at both schools. Thank god that the council has taken resposibility for allocating places for children as the school would be run by a bunch of Toffs who could probably afford to send their children to private schools anyway.
