  1. Come and get your / your kids / families / couples portraits drawn by local artist Joe Thomas.

Sittings are drop-in and will last from 5-7 minutes & will be at 41 Dulwich Village (the old Biff Shoe Shop)

It's a brilliantly fun experience, in which you'll not only witness how you / your kids CAN be still and you'll get something cool to hang on your walls.

Check out last weeks examples & follow on Insta - https://www.instagram.com/jthmsart/ where you'll also be able to message me to reserve a slot (but its mostly drop-ins and a short wait!)

There are 4 other awesome artists and makers selling their work, so call by and pick something up, or just watch the process in action.

I'll be mostly working in chalk & pen on heavyweight black art paper.

    £25 for a solo session,

    £30 for couples / pairs

    £35 for families

  2. This is awful

A similar thing happened to my fiancee last month - followed from outside ED Station through the park to Sainsbury's where she was grabbed from behind & wrestled onto the floor. She was attacked from behind for her phone and the guy didn't say much, but the most alarming thing was that it all happened at 2 pm on a busy Saturday afternoon in broad daylight.

According to some witnesses, they guy had been walking up & down the parade of shops waiting for easy victims to emerge from the station to then follow until they have an opportunity. In the case, the guy ran off towards the estate on DKH.

The impacts of these attacks always goes much deeper than bumps, bruises and stolen blackberries and I'd really welcome more police deployments around the station or anything else that genuinely helps protect

Waitrose plans take a twist with a space soon to be available at the Tesco on ED Road.

Seriously, do people riot when a member of the public kills another member of the public? MyNameHere's post really strikes a chord - good words.

  4. Hi

My daughter seems to always struggle with congestion at night. In the past I thought it was always the onset of a cold and whilst she is quite coldy generally (occasional sneezing and runny nose) she seems to really get bunged up in the evenings so her sleep is very unsettled. In the morning I often have to clean her nasal passages but she spends the rest of the day relatively snuffle free (except for if she has a big crying fit in which case the nostril are full!). I heard that you can get some plug-in thing that will help her breath at night, does anyone know what this is?

I always use thyme oil and snufflerub but it only offers brief respite for her.

    Any advice welcome!

    Thanks

  5. Hi

I've just finished a 6 week antenatal class with Sofie Jacobs - [www.sofiejacobs.com]. She started her classes in Greenwich and I was on the first course she had done in East Dulwich which is held on a Thursday evening at the Mag. I can really recommend her as an unbiased, helpful and passionate midwife who clearly loves what she does and offers fantastic support and advice. I didn't do NCT classes because i'd heard mixed reviews and the timing wasnt great for my due date but found Sofie on this forum and want to give a massive thanks to her for being so great!! She offered me a lot of support on the phone outside of the classes for which I am very grateful!

If you live in the area and you are looking for a thorough and friendly antenatal course then I can't recommend her highly enough!

  6. Hi, not sure if this is helpful but I'm expecting in February and have just finished a course with a midwife called Sofie Jacobs. She did a great session on breastfeeding and I know she does private consultations for problematic feeding patterns. She has contact details on her website so google her. I only have experience of her advice as I'm not there yet but I really trusted what she was saying. Perhaps worth it if you tearing your hair out and have no other answers!

  7. I am 33 weeks and have had it this morning. I feel absolutely fine and they said worst case is you feel a bit groggy but I have nothing. My midwife said there is nothing to lose and my mother in law is a GP and she thoroughly recommended it. I think the risks of contracting swine flu are very dangerous to you and the baby and there are no known risks to the unborn baby so it actually feels like quite a responsible thing to do. Read a few articles and they were all quite pro-vaccine.

The nurse this morning just said that it is the same decision you will have to make when you decide whether to vaccinate your baby.

  8. sam, Must declare i have a commercial interest with google, but have been using the g1 / google phone - the touchscreen is genuinely good, plus the qwerty keyboard is nice for texting and emailing, and is has enough other buttons / roller ball on it then you can use it with gloves on - also the web browsing is mega.

That said, it isn't as nice to look at as the tocco or iphone and the battery life is a little flakey, although the android platform / OS it uses is really enjoyable to use and you can download tonnes of different applications

  9. i do like the idea of creating some anti-foxtons car stickers mocking their own designs. Apparently this year, the theme is jockey's jersey designs as part of their ''great property race''. Each car is named as if it were a race horse, although I'm sure forumites could come up with some names which reflect everyone's thoughts on Foxtons.

Try to read this part of their website without throwing up. Use of the term ''drivers home track'' and ''great for parking in tight spaces'' may prove a little close to the bone.

  10. So where do people stand on tax breaks, including income tax breaks for vcs and reports that more and more massive companies aren't paying corporate tax in one way or another.

I assume that most of us think that huge profits for companies are fine as long as the benefit for the greater community is evident through tax revenues, employment and trade.

So what do we think when the bonuses being paid out are on largely untaxed profits and the possibility that the tax breaks given to VCs and the asset-stripping investment banks aren't putting as much in the national coffers as we might wish?

Even though the forum is be no means wholly set out against the bonusses, we should keep in mind that 'earning money for their company' in many of these cases, isn't the same as 'earning money for the economy' especially where tax is concerned.

Add to this the argument that many of the individuals recieving the bonusses aren't paying the same % tax as most of us and the pay gap isn't between the 'super rich' and the 'poor' but the 'super rich' and 'everyone else'. Surely there is good reason to feel just a little peeved.

SeanMacG's point is right. It is about encouraging and harnessing trade and growth in a way that benefits society to the greatest extent. Is it that at the moment, we don't feel that this is the case and that city bonusses are an example of this?

Still, the bonus bubble seems to now have burst thanks to efforts by the US to get more people on the property ladder. Swings and rounabouts.

  11. Dearest forumites,

I have some spare tickets for Ricky Gervais at The Hammersmith ''Carling'' Apollo for Thursday (tonight) and Saturday.

I currently have 4 tickets on each night, Will happily trade at face value (Thursday - ?30, Saturday - ?40) - or any reasonable offer.

Do send me a PM - if for tonight, I can meet you at Hammersmith, or if for Saturday, I can pop over to anywhere in ED / local surrounds on Friday eve / Saturday daytime.

    Cheers,

    joe
