  1. The new deal although offering an 11% base pay rise, takes away the overtime for unsocialble hours after 7pm weekdays and Saturday, which could effectively amount to a 20% pay cut for doctors. It is a highly demoralised plan to force through on Junior Doctors, I can't think of any private companies who could get away with this, because the company would lose their talent. Its taking advantage of the current crop of Junior Doctors who can not seek work outside of the UK as there is only one employer. Doctors who are training now would be wise to move abroad, which conversely will cause the NHS to hire doctors from abroad often on expensive locum rates.

It does seem very unfair to force through a paycut, no other public service has had this put upon on them and in the mid to long term its likely to cause staff shortages.

  2. sorry to say but I would really not recommend Ryan and RJS carpentry. Turned up late on all 3 days making me late for work, completed the job to a really poor standard, used work experience (!) people on the job, the doors that were hung all needed rehanging shortly afterwards as he had not allowed enough room for them to expand. Was meant to refund me for materials that weren't used but never did.

I found the whole service really unprofessional.

(Realised later that the recommendation from this forum was actually from his girlfriend....)

  3. sorry that this has happened to you buddug.

I live near to you, heard my doorbell ring at about 6.30ish and there was no one at the door so i went out on the street and saw two groups of youngish people in light blue t-shirts with clip boards going door to door, not sure what they wanted but they did not wait long for someone to come an answer the door before going onto the next house. I don't think they are connected with budug's buglary but Saila it may have been these people that rang your doorbell...

  4. The rate of house price increase certainly slowed wouldn't say they actually have fallen compared to fourth quarter 2007 overall.

Houses are being sold at around 94% of asking price on average...

Check the link out too see that apparently Southwark is the biggest gainer in London for first quarter 2011.

trebles all round for ED homeowners?

  5. This article was in National Geographic recently, it talks about taming foxes and how if we had chosen to domesticate them rather than dogs they would have made (even) better pets. So and i'm just putting this out there as an idea... If fighting them off isn't working perhaps you could try feeding them, and they might be more respectful, cats tend not to poo in their own territory so you never know....

Here is the link to the article if you are interested.

  6. I think Wino is correct, due to fierce competition in the car insurance industry, it has acutally been loss making for about five years and lately all the big car insurers have been making steps to up their rates. The uninsured drivers do cost the industry, although if you are uninsured you'd probably drive more carefully.

I think particually the aggregator sites are not as cheap as they used to be, as some of the big insureres have chosen not to be listed on them because it costs them commission they have to pay these sites meaning that the premiums are in fact higher than if you went direct to them. Try Admiral if you have more than one car, as they offer a big discount. And it think Aviva don't use the aggregator sites either.
