  1. s-l, woman of dulwich guessed right so it's upto her to start a new one
  2. All that we are interested in is getting the chairs (tatty/grey/red/whatever) back so that we can return them to their rightful owner. It looks like this is not going to happen. We will need to consider what to do next, and also whether we are prepared to subject ourselves again to all the bother, stress and quite substantial personal expense of organising a street party next year.
  3. we can't imagine why anyone would nick those chairs - they had seen a fair bit of wear and tear and been sat on by many generations of ED bottoms. If someone nicked those chairs, they were miserable sods indeed! BUT the fact remains that they belong to the Darrell Road Community Centre. If they mysteriously reappear on Crystal Palace Road, we will take them back to their rightful home, no questions asked.
  4. over to you, womanofdulwich!
  5. western vegetarian cooking seems to be stuck in the meat-and-two-veg groove i.e the reliance on a protein dish as the main event. Other cuisines which don't rely on meat compensate by offering inventive treatments of vegetables e.g. spicing, pickling, fermenting, and combining textures. They also rely less on the 'dish' concept and more on mix and match - the central element is usually starchy (rice, noodles, pasta, dosa) but is complemented by a range of flavours and textures to provide interest. I fear that it may just be too difficult for your average eaterie to marry the two paradigms, hence the eternal veg lasagnas and the glut of goat's cheese tarts, although tapas does come close
  6. it looks like this game is running out of steam mush! mush, all of you! and yes, that's a clue
  7. What does one do about predators? Two magpies in the garden - lots of anxiety (cue massive twittering outburst) among the smaller birds. And the tortoise-shell cat from a few doors down has taken to hiding in the shrubbery near the bird feeder!
  8. We raised nearly ?200 for the Dulwich Helpline, thanks to our generous raffle prize donors: ? Cakings for the dozen sprinkle-topped cupcakes ? Glazer Delmar for the whiskey ? ED (Rigby & Mac) for the ?25 voucher ? Rye Books for the book voucher ? Dr Boo for the make-up session ? Chener Books for the books on the history of ED and the repro 1799 map of the Manor of Friern (ED) ? Stella C for the kids? wellies ? EOS Dance School for the dance classes ? and the bottle of wine from The Actress Many thanks to Dan at the Great Exhibition for providing the marquee and the electricity. And thanks to Michelle for persevering until we could get her coffee stall set up on the road on the day!

  15. We borrowed some plastic chairs for the Crystal Palace Road Big Lunch from the Darrell Road Community Centre, but some of them had gone missing when it was time to give them back... Any info to help find them so that we can give them back would be greatly appreciated - please PM us if you know where they might have gone It was a fab day and the weather stayed fab too. Thread with pics and recipes from the Lunch here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?6,1108096,page=1 Thanks a million to everyone who came and everyone who contributed, and hope to see you all again next year!
  16. what is a 'rodent bird'? a mouse with wings?
  17. 150-odd views of 'gazebo wanted' by now, but no gazebos on offer - clearly the EDF is not read by people with gazebos. Lost cats, yes, dodgy plumbers, yes, but no gazebos. I am also puzzled. Can you please un-puzzle me. I thought I'd posted this in a section which said 'Ask Admin'. I get a reply from you. Are you Admin?
  18. Dear admin My friends and I are trying to organise a street party on 2 June - we are all volunteers and are putting substantial amounts of our time and effort into doing this. We get no gain of any kind out of it other than a warm glow from helping people to get together. We try to advertise this on EDF so that people know when to turn up. We ask for the loan of gazebos to help keep those people dry. Both of things are essential and we are trying to use the forum as a community resource to help us get the message out to people. You move both threads to bits of the forum which get maybe two and a half hits a week. Why? On the other hand, we could start some kind of artificial argy bargy that incidentally publicises the street party and asks for the loan of gazebos. You'd probably allow us to keep that in the main threads. Doesn't make much sense to me. Could you possibly move our gazebo request at least back to the main drag? thanks
  19. It was a great day out - and it wouldn't have been the same without the kids. Well done, Sue, Nyge, Angela and everyone!
  20. If you were on CP Road (or even if you weren't and are wondering what you missed!) check this out: Helen Jermyn, our lovely 'official' photographer, will put her photos from the CP Rd Big Lunch on The set's called "Crystal Palace Road Big Lunch 2010" and the privacy level will be set to public which means anyone can view the photos there. Sue was spot on with her prediction that it would be a great party - she helped to make it so. And thanks for the thanks, Fuschia, we're delighted you enjoyed yourself!
