  1. Join us on Tuesday for a stimulating and thought provoking practical talk about planning ahead.

Planning ahead for the one thing in life we know is certain: Death

Ann Kenrick and Trevor Moore will lead an interactive, informative and thought provoking evening explaining the key decisions you can make in advance, to ease the burden on your family and friends if you lose mental capacity and when your life finally ends: formal matters like Lasting Powers of Attorney for financial affairs and for health and care and Advance Decisions to refuse medical treatment; informal matters like the type of funeral you would like and end-of-life care options.

Let's embrace this sensitive topic and take steps to create a legacy of care and consideration for others.

Ann Kenrick is former CEO of the Charterhouse almshouse, member of the Education and Research Committee of St Christopher's Hospice and founder of End of Life Matters, a venture supporting people of all ages to create end of life plans and give them peace of mind.

Trevor Moore is a humanist celebrant and Chair of My Death, My Decision.

  2. Take some time for yourself to mark Dying Matters week by meeting like minded people to talk about death in Bell House, Dulwich. Death Cafes were started by Jon Underwood in 2010 and provide a unique opportunity to talk openly and honestly about this sometimes taboo subject in a safe and confidential environment. We will enjoy a group directed discussion in which people can share their thoughts, find meaning, ask questions and reflect on what’s important. We welcome you to this space with tea, coffee, cake, warmth, and curiosity.

Feedback from a recent event described it as open, thoughtful, informative, welcoming, thought provoking, supportive and enriching. One participants commented that 'it allowed discussion beyond the usual boundaries so it was liberating'. Another talked of 'how much there is to gain from thinking about the inevitable.'

Please note Death Cafes are open to, and respectful of, people of all communities and belief systems. They are not bereavement or counselling sessions.
