  1. Hi All,

I'm looking for recommendations for someone who can remount a curtain rail for me.

There's a minor complication in that there's a seriously tough girder just under the thin layer of plaster. The way we got around this before was to glue a long strip of wood to the wall, paint it white, and then mount the the curtain rail holders onto that. I see no reason that the same approach can't be repeated.

I would guess it's something any good handyman could handle? Though they'd probably want to inspect it before committing.

    Thanks,

    Nick

  2. Hello,

I'm writing on behalf of the people in my flats on Talfourd Road, Peckham.

There's a garden area in the front, which is partly concrete, but with some areas for plants, and us residents are doing a poor job of looking after it!

So we are looking for someone to do regular light gardening duties, to get the area a bit more presentable.

    Interested in recommendations, and offers!

    Thank You,

    Nick

  3. Hello All,

I'm looking for some recommendations for a good handyman, for a few jobs around my Peckham flat.

Drawers ./ cabinets not closing properly not closing properly.

Attach an alarm and thermostat to a wall.

    And the unusual one!

Take apart a DFS electric recliner sofa and armchair into its major pieces while I take some pictures to aid in reassembly after it's moved!

    Thank You!

    Nick

  4. Hi All,

I'm looking for someone who can connect up a washing machine for me.

The delivery people couldn't manage it, the old ones power cable went behind a dishwasher, and no other power point in range.

So it should be a straightforward case of loosening dishwasher attachments, sliding ot forward, and then back after connection.

I've previously used "The Spin Doctor" but I'm not getting a response to email or phone message...

    Recommendations please!

    Nick

  5. Hi All,

I'm looking to let out my flat in the Dulwich side of Peckham, and I'm looking for a company that will manage it for me reliably, find good tenants, etc.

(I'm planning on moving abroad, so will need a full service covering everything).

I had heard good things about Gareth James, but they are proving extremely sluggish in responding to things like questions about the contact they wish me to sign. Which makes me reluctant to trust them if I'm not even in the country.

    Thanks,

    Nick

  6. A bit late, but here goes...

A few months back Krzysztof Zajko did some major work for me, removing a low wall between kitchen and living room, putting in a new kitchen, and making everything flow smoothly from kitchen to living room.

The work done was excellent - it did over run slightly, but given what they had to deal with, I really can't complain. (Such as the kitchen floor not being the same level as the living room!). I'm extremely happy with the result.

Given the amount of brickwork being removed, mess was unavoidable, but at the end 4 ladies were here for 4 hours, and did an absolutely superb job in getting everything clean at the end, to an exceptionally high standard.

    Highly recommended!

  7. Only just got around to this review!

Yes, I am also happy to recommend Berdec Decorators.

I had some painting and kitchen shelves to sort out - it took us a couple of goes to workout how to make the best of the Ikea shelves I had, that were a bit too big for the space available, (I get the impression that pretty much every craftsman hates Ikea stuff!), but we got there.

I plan on using them again shortly.

  8. Another happy customer of Team Greg, hallway and a bedroom painted, 2 ikea book cases repaired. Very high quality work, no paint where it was not wanted! I was also pleasantly surprised that the paint they used did not smell strongly, and dried fast, which helped make the job go well.

I'll definitely be using Greg again for my next job.

  9. I had my boiler replaced by Mark Newlove last week, and was very impressed with the service. Not least because he came in at close to half the cost of the British Gas quotation, and managed to do all the work without expensive and inconvenient scaffolding.

He also returned to help in person when I got confused by the controls for the new system.

I'll be dropping the British Gas maintenance contract, and using him in future for that too.

  10. Hi All,

I've previously been very happy wityh work done by Victor 007 Handyman, but I'm not getting a response to messages at the moment.

The jobs I need doing are:

    Fitting a new ceiling light

Fitting new taps in my bathroom basin, and connecting the waste outlet up.

New heating element to be put into my hotpoint washing machine

    New bath side panel

    And possibly some more.

I'm based in Talfourd Rd, Peckham

Any recommendations for someone who can handle all or maybe some of this?

    Thanks,

    Nick

  11. I hope someone can help me here - via these forums a few years ago I found a very good plumber, who was a big help sorting out radiators. And now I can't find his details. (I did try search here, but no luck)

It was a one man company, based somewhere near Bromley if I recall correctly.

I've got more and more fed up with the awful 'service' I have got from British Gas, and I'm looking to have a new boiler installed. I'd also want them to do some regular preventative maintenance - something else Brtish Cas are not much cop at...

I'd rather not try someone for the first time with such a major job, so I'd really appreciate pointers to the excellent forgotten chap. But if it comes down to it, better than British Gas should not be a particularly high bar to clear...
