It looks like the branches overhung the entry way to the toilets. There's a lot of paranoia about at the moment about branch drop after a couple of sad accidents which have happened recently where beloved trees were propped up but still dropped branches then everyone jumps up and asks why nothing was done before. You might remember when the massive oak fell over in Peckham Rye by the skating park, thankfully no one was hurt. I've noticed notices in almost every public space warning about branch drop and some trees have had barriers put underneath them etc. These things seem to come into vogue and then pass again. I expect local authorities in their regular meetings have all been discussing their risk exposure and issues of corporate responsibility etc....and someone will have been assigned the task (and responsibility) of making everything all right. Perhaps this tree fell victim to that. I doubt there is malice and something they feel is safer/appropriate etc will take its place in due course. I don't doubt cutting it back is an over reaction but at the same time we all bellow at them when things go wrong so there is a difficult path to navigate. It was a chestnut by the look of it, so not particularly rare I have plenty of saplings growing through my beds if they wish to replace like for like.

To save anyone else looking here is a link to the website - not much on there at the moment though Nunhead Art Trail | Openstudios That map really is surprisingly weird isn't it. I don't know what the opposite to ASMR is but that's it.

'Foodbank' street collector outside M&S
jimmah replied to Castleton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's interesting that there is nothing on their website for anyone in need other than links to other people's foodbanks. There is no address for this organisation other than their office address ie nowhere to attend to receive help. Their contact us page only asks for donations or volunteers. If you approach them in need you will be directed to already established foodbanks and not their own. -
Anywhere selling decent strong tea bags locally?
jimmah replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I get my tea from Birchall who are in Sydenham. Their tea is always really good quality - but it is expensive. I order online in bulk to get free postage. The breakfast tea is good and strong and their Darjeeling is the most consistent in quality (I find other brands lose flavour at certain times in the year) Another plus is that the bags are compostable, something I can confirm because I've been putting them in my dalek for years. I have a referral code 42W012Q but I don't know if using it gets you a discount or not (it might only benefit me) either way they have a sale on at the moment. Advice on collection of large number of books
jimmah replied to east-of-the-Rye's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I know it isn't as good as giving to charity but if you struggle to find a charity that wants them you could try one of those websites where you scan the barcode and they pay you for your old books - I think they pay for the shipping. It would at least stop them being junked which no one wants to see happen. -

That will explain them stripping the pyracantha then!

There was a flock of redwings in my garden today, I don't think I've ever seen one before.

Ha, Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.

In the orange jackets? That would be Centrepoint. A great charity.

Long tailed tits are back in my garden, I really think they might be my favourite garden birds.

I also have recently started getting them and I use Edge. My adverts are showing underwear. What is odd is that my browser settings should block ads and pop ups but this one seems to persist. Like Jazzer I don't get it on any other websites.
