I know it isn't as good as giving to charity but if you struggle to find a charity that wants them you could try one of those websites where you scan the barcode and they pay you for your old books - I think they pay for the shipping. It would at least stop them being junked which no one wants to see happen.

Adding my condolences and sympathy

Glad to hear he is home, give him lots of treats and cuddles

That will explain them stripping the pyracantha then!

There was a flock of redwings in my garden today, I don't think I've ever seen one before.

Another crime committed by Rose's is their so called 'cod'
Ha, Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.

In the orange jackets? That would be Centrepoint. A great charity.

Long tailed tits are back in my garden, I really think they might be my favourite garden birds.
-
I also have recently started getting them and I use Edge. My adverts are showing underwear. What is odd is that my browser settings should block ads and pop ups but this one seems to persist. Like Jazzer I don't get it on any other websites.

That's right I just replied to your Dad who sent a pm.

I found something belonging to Henry Allberry on Court Lane. If you know him let him know!

There were two big Jays on the allotments yesterday

Could it be something like a thrush or a fieldfare?
I feel like this year there has been a really good variety of garden birds, I'm wondering if it was something to do with the last year.

I just had a pair of Greenfinches on my feeder I usually have plenty of Chaffinches but this was something new.
Previous weeks I was treated to some long tailed tits who were even friendlier than robins coming right up to the window to peer in at me and my cat. Their faces are like little teddy bears.

Hi Dan, If you know what the bike looked like then it might be worth leaving a note on the lamppost just in case it was stolen and the owner will know there were witnesses and a report made.

I noticed on Sunday that I wasn't able to access the forum from work on either Mozilla, Chrome or IE. It worked OK on my phone though and it is working fine here at home.
The error message I was getting at work was something like the host server isn't reponding or couldn't be verified.

Me too and I didn't hear back either

Just to update, I ended up with three! I had them in a box with me in the garden and their parents came and fed them worms and eventually one of them sort of flew, a bit like a chicken doesn't, into the ivy at the bottom of my garden. The other two didn't seem to want to go anywhere so the wildlife rescue suggested I take them over and they are looking after them now.
It would seem that robins fledge by jumping out of the nest and then living on the ground for while while their parents feed them there. They hide in holes during this time. So the crows must have just been hanging about because they saw them in the open so they're off the hook now.
I can't see how any make it to adulthood if they have to scrabble about on the ground for a few days before they can fly.
Hopefully they'll make it through.

I've sent them a message. Thanks very much. In the meantime they are in a box next to the window in case they have fledged from somewhere nearby and their parents can retrieve them. They're calling now which is quite good I think.
-
Thanks, incredibly I just found another one so now there are two, I really can't see how there could be a nest on the hous. There are a couple of crows stalking the garden and I'm wondering if they've dropped them or something.

There was a small brown and yellow bird on my back step. I think it is injured as one of its legs is a bit weak.
I've looked on the RSPB and RSPCA sites which say if they aren't with their parents or near their nest then you should take them to your nearest Wildlife Rehabilitator but when I looked they all seemed to be in Norfolk or Somerset. Does anyone know what I can do with it.
I can't see how putting in back in the garden is the right thing to do I think something will come along and eat it.
Any ideas?

I'm with Bulb and have been for over a year. They've been good with queries and I've not had any problems with the service. You can see a graph if your energy usage over time which is useful.
They're one of the cheaper suppliers too.
Here follows the obligatory referral link which will earn you (and importantly me)a ?50 credit if you switch through it www.bulb.me/jamesc1307

Have they finished it? I'm really interested in how it ends up so if it's done I'll take a detour and have a look.
