  1. Seen many recommendations for Russell Perring in this section of the forum (it is how I decided to go with him) and want to add another one now that he's completed work on our roof.

Great guy, well organised, fair price and uses extremely decent workers (polite, tidy and professional). Did the more complicated bits of work himself and closely supervised everything else.

    His mobile is 07852 972052.

    Big thumbs up.

  2. Hello

I may be forced into moving from East Dulwich to Herne Hill (due to a derth of available ground floor 3 beds with gardens)

I'll be putting up my 1 bed flat on Barry Road up for rent soon (before June)

Anyway, new commute will likely be from Herne Hill to Farringdon via overland

My question is has anyone travelled this route? If so what's the state of the trains at Herne Hill? Are they massively over crowded? Standing is tolerable? Seats are available?

The line is First Capital connect and I have the luxury of travelling any time between 8:00 and 8:50

I tried looking for a Herne Hill residents forum but couldn't find one - we're obviously more advanced in East Dulwich

    Any help appreciated

    Thanks

  3. Hello everybody

We were thinking of getting out of town on Saturday and driving down to Brighton for a family day out

My wife is six months pregnant and my daughter is 20 months

    Any ideas?

    Appreciated

    Thanks

  4. Hello everybody

Today I received a letter explaining that there are thieves in the area targeting BMWs for parts, especially bumper assemblies and alloys.

They suggest using locking wheel nuts and may offer marking kits.

I already have original wheel locking nuts but I want to add some new ones I just bought.

I just tried to remove a standard nut from each wheel on my car and the six inch socket extension I was using sheered off!

    The nuts are on solid!

I was using a torque wrench so there was plenty of leverage.

When I tried the spanner in the tool kit I also couldn't get the nuts off!

I was wondering if there's anyone in the area who has something stronger than a Kamasa socket set I could borrow for 20 mins.

Specifcally a six to nine inch extension for a 3/8" square drive

    Thanks

  5. Major pain getting home tonight

Blackfriar's road was shut from Farringdon to Southwark Tube, took an age to be diverted around Waterloo and then the bus terninated at Peckham Library...

    Nice

Then wait for another bus, making an at best 60 minute journey last 90+ mins

That's OK if you have Jeremy Clarkson to look forward to - not so great if you need to get home to the wife and kiddies

  6. Hello

I am sad to report we had a burglary on Barry road today

It occured somewhere in the middle between Silvester Road and Goodrich Road

Looks like they targeted the two buildings that had the least effective protection between detachments

Most buildings have a wooden, door-like structure, between neighbouring structures, this one doesn't

They must have been chancers looking for the weakest spot on Barry Road to get in and out quickly.

They must also have had a vehicle, probably a van, waiting outside the property. They no doubt were casing the property and the home owner's behaviour for a while, in order to know when to strike.

If you see a Van you or your neighbour isn't expecting one then be cautious and take the number

They took the stolen property onto Barry Road and drove off

So be wary of "removal men"

  7. If drivers are crossing Barry road without realising or bothering to give way then something needs to be done

The problem is exacerbated by the fact that Barry road is so straight and long, and many drivers assume they will be able to spot anyone entering the road from the right or left - consequently they speed

Summer's here and the number of young men who do close to 60mph is really shocking

It's 2pm on a Saturday and I would say there's one going past every five minutes

That junction at Underhill hardly helps - the traffic light is just past the junction (on the way down).

Anyone coming down onto Barry road from Underhill, looks right and sees a red light for the traffic coming up Barry Road on their right and assumes the same for traffic coming down Barry road on their left - they jump across even though traffic could still be coming down to stop at the lights after the junction

There needs to be a set of lights either side of the junction

As a pedestrian I hate going past that junction in the morning

You can see the confusion as several road users approach that junction, some turning right, some stopping at the lights, some wanting to cross over Barry road, you have to eyeball each person and try to undertand what they aim to do next and what you should be doing all the while scanning your head left to right several times

I say we descend on the place with pitchforks and torches demanding at least one human sacrifice to satiate our blood lust

I hate light pollution and can't sleep with the faintest of light coming through the window but I would rather have well lit streets for the saftey of all than dark, uncomfortable, dangerous footways

I'm only guessing but it could be the powerful halogen light the council installed (mentioned above) may have come about as a request from other local residents

The sun rises at 4:30am in summer and I've never heard complaints about that - I sympathise but surely the answer is well lit streets and decent light "insulation"

As for Foxtons' continuing unecessary light pollution and energy wastage then my offer stills stand...

  9. I have a minty NC30/VFR 400

Only, it's in my mum's lock up in NW8 as I don't feel happy about leaving it on the street around here - especially after the rescent stories of youths pushing over bikes

Shame really because the hour long journey into town on the number 12 bus is doing my head in !!!
