Good value local hairdressers (for women)?
stonebrownie replied to redjam's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Network in Nunhead is excellent. Experienced and friendly salon that is run by sisters who really listen to their clients and give a great service. Trustworthy and very fairly priced. -
I tried to distract a traffic warden who was ticketing a car on Grove Vale the other day, Interestingly he told me the opposite side of the road i.e. by the cobblers doesn’t have the same parking restrictions as the side with the locksmith ( where you have to register your free 30 mins by phone).

Neighbourhood Vet overcharging?
stonebrownie replied to froggy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In January my very old cat was ill and my vet in Peckham had taken blood tests, subsequently prescribing tablets to which the cat was not responding to. A friend recommended 'Neighbourhood Vets' and I rang for a second opinion. They were keen to take the cat in and have a look for which I was grateful but when I explained I no longer had pet insurance and needed to get an idea of the price- they said that wasn't possible. I persisted and the receptionist went to ask a vet who concurred with her. I said surely there was a guideline for blood tests and an x-ray for example? (just as when I go to the dentist they tell me the price of a filling, crown etc). The receptionist went to ask a second vet and I was told - blood tests £200-£300 and x-ray £300-£500. I did not take my cat to Neighbourhood Vets as my Peckham Vet had charged £80 for extensive blood tests done over a morning. I feel there should be more transparency in pricing. -
Recommendation for James who arrived with his van at short notice. Very happy that he was able and willing to manoeuvre a heavy fridge freezer efficiently and with good grace!

26/2-Used ED to find Niko. He arrived when he said he would, kept to the quote he?d given and replaced the bathroom taps so I?m pleased. (Also I first checked out the above recommendations to make sure they were genuine! -& they were)

Trying to get a parking permit
stonebrownie replied to the_duke_of_hazzard's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I couldn't do this online and resented having to make security changes on my computer to let Southwark permanently access my card details so I phoned 03448002736 (helpful people) and I have a code to take to a newsagent and pay that way. It has taken up much too much time and you can't even get a little square of blue paper to put on the windscreen for proof for that ?125! -

Aria sorted out a complicated shower leak earlier this summer so he was my ?go to? when the bathroom taps played up. Aria and his team were efficient and friendly in sorting out this latest problem on the same day. -

direct trains north of Blackfriars from Denmark Hill
stonebrownie replied to [email protected]'s topic in The Lounge
Going back-Farringdon - Denmark Hill is a pain too. Train stops at Blackfriars and you are in the middle of the bridge (& river) no way to see which platform the connecting train leaves from. It is necessary to run across the river down two flights of steps, up two flights of steps- 1/2 way across the river again to see if it is platform 1 or 3 that you need- it can be bad luck and the first platform was the better option- in which case it is up & down the stairs again. -
New Southwark Form to request a CPZ now online
stonebrownie replied to jimlad48's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My experience with CPZ Visitor parking -we put everything in correctly including the day and date but missed the year- tried talking with the warden as my eighty old dad(just out of hospital)had made a small error.Still got the fine and only waived when we wrote to the MP. The permit fell off another time and because Southwark refused to give confirmation on the phone that we had paid my husband jumped on the towing truck until the police came causing a lot of amusement in the street. Had to get the 200 parking pound fine waived which was a load of hassle. On a day-to-day basis why pay ?120 only park fairly near to your own property? -
Camberwell Grove bridge closed for at least 6 months
stonebrownie replied to gm99's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
This closure is also exhasibated with the now permenant closure of the road by Denmark Hill Station that allowed access to Grove Lane. I am not aware of any consultations. Any news?
