  1. Do animal fleas bite humans? I have had a few bites but only at work in central London (W1). My calves and the tops of my arms are the only places they feast on (if it is a case of fleas, and not something else).
  2. Is there one? Is it simple? I get stacks of crap, even with all the filters on and with my having asked senders to unsubscribe me, so I want to bin it and start again. If I do manage to can it, will it be 'permanently' deleted or just waiting to be resurrected sometime in the future? Thanks.
  3. We had a problem with a leaking drainpipe affecting our outside wall. Chris quickly worked out it was a problem with the overflow from the cold water tank. Daniel fixed that while Chris replaced the drainpipe. They were efficient, reliable & good value - would gladly recommend them.
  4. I'd love to know about bats near to where I live - just opposite Goodrich School on Goodrich Road. Bats are one of my favourite creatures but I never see them around here, even though the back of my house backs on to a football pitch-sized patch of suburban gardens which I'd've thought would be a good feeding and roosting spot for them. Anyone else see bats in and around SE22/21/15?
  5. Trams are good but expensive. Guided bus systems are much cheaper and do more or less the same job. A Bakerloo extension to Denmark Hill or beyond would be a dream. Is it actually being thought of or just a 'what if' dreamt up by transport geeks?
  6. I got my tickets today at around 1130. At Stratford station you walk through the tunnel to Westfield and the ticket office is a Portakabin affair - staffed by about five people - which is easy to find with the help of the many pink-tabard wearing staff. There was no queue today and I got my tickets very quickly. I took my passport and the Visa card I used to buy them and did not need to quote the reference numbers. I was told you can pick up tickets at other venues but there is no central London collection point, which I think is rather amiss of the organisers.
  7. I think it is a good idea. About eight or more years ago I wrote to the people at Picture House cinemas to explain why I thought SE22 would be a good bet for a cinema. The person who wrote back agreed it would but said there were no places suitable to convert into a cinema, or at least into the kind of cinema PH would like to run.

So, where to put one? Above the Magda maybe? I really cannot think of anywhere apart from the Thomas More Hall near to ESPH.

I look forward to hearing more about this venture.

  8. I am not trolling, but I do think that people are more likely than ever now to want to see a GP rather than coast it out alone. Some complaints need seeing to by a doctor, but others don't. Do you really need to go to see the GP? Do you really need a today appointment, or is it just more convenient for you? Could a phone appointment work just as well for you?
  9. Hello. I had six 500cl bottles of Paulaner wheat beer over about 3.5 hours and felt like I had been poisoned the next day (though not until about eighteen hours later). I really don't think it was the alcohol content as I strive to avoid a hangover by not drinking too much in the first place, so could it have been the yeast and/or gluten. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
  10. Will Sky Atlantic be replaying the series, perhaps a few days later, or even ad nauseam, given that it is a pricey investment for them? I ask because I am thinking of getting Sky purely to be able to watch Mad Men and Game of Thrones but only would do so if I knew that I can catch the first episode again. (Sky says it can install within two days of booking, so it could be in by next week if I want it.)
  11. I have no idea, but if anyone can help with a sci-fi book, probably from the 60s or 50s, which features a planet of human(kids) - maybe earth - with two suns, one yellow and one blue, please let me know. I read it at the top of the stairs in my house when I was about nine and it freaked me out!
  12. Go for the bridge if you can. It is much cheaper, less invasive, even if it does mean the removal of a tooth, and with good cleaning can last a very long time. I have two (due to abscesses) and have had no problems at all with them.
  13. How about a rich, fish pie, topped with cream mash and then a pear, apple and ginger crumble with custard for afters? You don't need to fanny around with a starter - just have some G and Ts and some olives. Both dishes are perfect for the winter and there'll be leftovers for you to return to over the following few days. I won't post the recipes, but ask me if you want them.
