Capacitors can be purchased from Maplins, just check that it's the same farad/uF rating.
If your friend has had it apart already, could he not change the part?.

Be prepared that you may have to buy new saucepans if your existing ones aren't compatible with induction (iron based).
Test with a magnet on the base of the pans.

I would suggest taking the door off so that you can get a bit more purchase with the tool.
You tube will probably have a video on door removal.
