I doubt anybody wants the current status quo. I?m sure most people are desperate to see pollution levels reduce. However, closing local streets is not the solution. Even if this does have the desired effect of reducing overall levels of traffic it will without a doubt lead to increased traffic on the roads described rather outrageously in the councils original consultation documents as the main arterial roads. These roads - LL, EDG etc are residential streets just like other streets in the area. In fact some areas of these streets are more densely populated, with houses closer to the road, than some of the streets that have been recommended for road closures (eg townley road). As some people have already said on here, it is absolutely not acceptable to allow measures that make life better for some but are to the detriment of others.

Also, many of the schools in the local area were not shown in the original OHSD map e.g village infants, the junior school, east Dulwich Grove charter, JAGS prep, JAGS pre-prep, the primary school on LL (and that?s probably not all of them). These schools are all situated on - and in many cases are very close to - roads that will suffer from increased traffic due to displacement. It is not ok that children will sit in classrooms all day next to increased levels of traffic and therefore probably pollution, nor is it ok that children at these schools will have to walk along streets with increased traffic to get there.

I would like to see all talk of road closures dropped. We have to look at other measures to reduce pollution that affect everyone equally like improving public transport (difficult right now of course), finding a way to make escooters safe, greater incentives to use electric vehicles etc etc.

  2. I am coming in new to this thread, so am wondering what exactly is on the agenda of the council meeting? I?m hoping it?s general dissatisfaction with the postal service as well as loss of our local sorting office? We have had at least 2 items of important mail not turn up over the last couple of weeks or so, and obviously I?m worried about the post we don?t know about!

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for posting this - I went down there to look but no luck. I've left a poster in the window of Barry Food Store so if you see her again please do call the number on there as soon as possible. Thanks!
  4. We have lost a tabby and someone has kindly passed on your post. We're going out to investigate now... She's been with us for a year and half and doesn't usually stray far, or stay out for long so we are really worried. She's been missing since Sunday. I so hope this is her..

    Thank you for posting

  5. Missing since Sunday evening, 6 March- a grey and black striped tabby. Lordship lane area - usually roams around the garages (off milo road)/gardens between beauval road and lordship lane. Please can you check gardens, under any covers and outbuildings.

She's pretty timid and has never been out overnight so we are very worried. She is microchipped so if you have any doubts, go to any vet and they will be able to contact us.

Thank you very much for any help to find her.

  6. Is anyone else disappointed by the number of wheelie bins left on the pavement all week outside Lordship Lane properties? The issue seems to be worst between crystal palace road going downhill towards the police station. It makes the road look really untidy and must be a nuisance for some pedestrians, eg with large buggies. Other roads in East Dulwich don't seem to have the same problem, so why is it happening on Lordship Lane?

As far as I understand it bins are only supposed to be outside on collection day, and southwark's own website mentions that wheelie bins should only be supplied to those people who have the capacity for storing them inside the boundary of their own property.

  7. Hi James. I'm talking about residential bins. The problem seems to be particularly bad from crystal palace road down to the bottom of the hill - people leave their residential bins out on the street on both sides of the road. On the left hand side of the road as you go down the hill there is room at the front if most people's properties to take the bins in. On the right hand side the issue may be more complicated as I think there are lots of flats.

I thought people were obligated to keep their bins on their own properties, except on collection day, but maybe I've got this wrong?

    Thanks
