Southwark Labour are planning to sell the active town hall and two other town halls. No plans yet where council meetings would take place. If losing the democratic hub bothers you please let me know. The reason is stated as the building need modernising. I've worked from their and its an ok office so that's clearly not the reality.

A bakerloo station in ED would be fab. It isn't going to happen. But if it did it would be fine. I used to live 2mins from Borough tube. Weekends and evening were wonderfully peaceful depsite having a tube station there. It became livelier when Tate Modern, the Globe, etc opened. I don't get the feeling a tube station would bring a great big tourist attraction to ED or that we'd want one. What is more possible is some trains from East Dulwich going through London Bridge and onwards cutting out annoying time consuming changes.

I've just checked my records and Southwark for the last four financial years have planted 400 trees - mostly replacements. In East Dulwich we've planted around 30 trees every year for the last 4 years via Cleaner, Greener, Safer devolved funding and are about to do the same for this financial year.

The latest stock condition report has had much higher sampling rate and taken much closer look at acquired street properties. So it should be a lot more accurate. Problem seems to be supply and demand. Lots more people want to live in London - high demand. Very few homes being built - low supply. Rentals, prices have shot up. Housing benefit correspondingly out of control. Changing demand and supply is the key. If we allow so many people into London we'll have to build enough homes so the rents and prices are at sustainable levels. It really is dreadfully sad that so many people aren't paid enough to rent homes on the open market and that the open market due to over demand/under supply is so very very expensive.

London Councils grants are a collective attempt by councils in London to create pan London funding for worthy projects. But we have pan London government in the form of the Greater London Authority. I've not check the timings but suspect these grants programmes started with the demiss of the GLC and tried filling that gap. It seems long overdue for the GLA to lead on such schemes and grants.

Hi bodsier, Southwark Council Cabinet member responsible for trees is Cllr Barrie Hargrove [email protected] He's just about to release a Southwark Council Tree Strategy. I've given my intial feeback. Weirdly the Strategy didn't include all the recommendation of the tree scrutiny report chaired by Barrie from two years ago. Overall it appears the better than replacement rate of tree planting of recent years wont be met.

I've just been contacted by a resident who has only today had the Northcross Road Market proposed extension consultation through their letter box. The deadline from memory is this Friday. I had been chasing the lead officer for an update of results so far - which seems to have provoked actually starting it! Clearly something has gone horribly wrong with the consultation. If you live within 500m of Northcross Road and have not received this consultatiopn please let me know so we can see the scale of this pickle. I've contacted the lead officer asking what they plan to do about this.

Hi Pebbles, I've contact officers about the problems you had this week and will let you know the outcome. You're in the 'pilot' area so one of two possible crews will have caused this. Both crews dedicated to the 'pilot' areas so relatively easy to ensure they're don't do it again. Hi indiej25, Where did you read Southwark having a target of 90% by 2020? Southwark Labour party declared a manifesot pledge to double recyclnig by 2014. At the time recyclnig was 22% and predicted to be 24.65% before the May elections this year. So presume that means by 2014 recyclnig rate planned to be 49.30%. What they might have stated is 90% not going to landfill - which has already been achieved with much going to the South East London Combined Heat & Power plant just across the border in Lewisham for incineration.

Hi untamedstylist, UK rubbish at cost effectively building or extending tubes lines - remember 2000 Jubilee line extension worked out at over ?200M/km. Saying that recently DLR extended to Woolwich Arsenal for ?180m/2.5km but feels very much an aberation. It was turn key project with minimal London Underground involvement. Madrid they churn out new tube lines at ?30m/km 1930's plans in place started to be realised in early 1950's after WWII to extend Bakerloo line 2.5km to Camberwell Green and Denmark Hill station. Unfortunately they ran out of money/will. The obvious thing would be to copy the DLR model. Cut some bus routes that would cover the same route and divert the roughly ?4M per bus route to pay the interest on some bonds as well as more tube revenue generated. Which is what I've been trying to glean sufficient information together to propose.

Hi peckhamwhy, Dulwich Hamlets licensing applicatino is actually in South Camberwell ward but I know it had affected many hence why I posted it. In my experience a well run council committee will accept new evidence rigt up to the committee start time - the more balanced and reasoned the easier it will be for councillors to digest quickly. - They have been breaching their licence for a while so does this count as a retrospective application? I'd presume so. Normal process is to discuss any breaches and if possible resolve them amicably. By applying for a licence formal conditions can be placed such as sound proofing etc. BUT its definately not a slam dunk and the committee could easilly be persuaded if residents attended and highlighted the current problems and how any new licence would impact local residents. - Noise levels are very reasonable on a Saturday afternoon and a nuisance on a Sunday evening. Then please tell them that - ask you neighbours to tell them that. - Because they sub-let their car park to the car wash people (who have their equipment & a range of cars in the park at any time) whenever there are functions or matches, day or night, cars park in the estate, sometimes blocking the road instead of parking in the car park. Can they be asked to encourage visitors to use the car park and to keep spaces available for guests? That must be a real pain and would be grounds to object - insufficient car parking in the area unless condition that they use their actual car park for car parking rather than car cleaning. - What was the fire brigade objection? I'm afraid I don't. I would imagine fire exits or similar? Hope this helps.

Hi rahrahrah, Southwark Park is fenced making it easier to manage safely. Burgess Park is unfenced. Quite a few local displays which aren't free. Burbage Road Sports Club ground - close to junction of Stradella Road. That was really good last year. Shame we don't have a display in Dulwich Park. I'll ask the friends if they've ever thought of running one with an entrance fee to raise money.

Concita, you yourself posted crime stats showing East Dulwich lowest rate of crimes in Southwark. So I don't understand why you think crime is going up. What we're getting is well reported crimes on this forum such as the very professional sounding burglary of your home. Truly awful but not in itself a crime wave.

Dulwich Hamlet Football Club - the Licensing Committee meets next Wednesday 10am at Southwark Town Hall on Peckham Road to decide on increasinng licensing hours for this club. Hi sb, This thread should perhaps be retitled "burglaries in Forst Hill/East Dulwich areas/Bellenden/Peckham Rye /South Camberwell with bits of Dulwich Village" because roughly that's the areas posted about. Such an area has about 50,000 homes with 80,000 residents.

Hi Shell_8, I can think of many reasonable reasons for this. Equally, when we had a forcible entry by kicking the front door in I'd ignored repeated door belling ringing. Ringing the doorbell is a great way to see if someone is home or not. It can do no harm to email our East Dulwich Safer Neighbourhood Team (assuming you live in East Dulwich ward) on [email protected] your experiences and they'll decide whether it fits a pattern or not.

Hi Gimme, The actual speed humps would cost ?17,000 for Matham, Ashbourne and Chesterfield. The paperwork and signs would cost another ?20,000. Truly astounding. Dec 2009 when I talked such a scheme through with officers came out at ?25,000 = ?20,000 for the humps + signs and ?5,000 for the paperwork. I can't use the funding to choose a different supplier than via regular council officers and term contractors. Real dilemma.

Hi yummumbums, Goose Green park is fine for occassional events but the grass would never hold up to regularly beign used for events - and certainly not once or twice a week. I've asked council officers for feedback on the consultation but they're not ready to count the responses yet. Will pester them for the results.

I've had two requests for help in areas outside the 'pilot' areas as their previous reliable recyclnig collectinos have gone haywire. They've tried directly contacting the council and had stupid responses - one sent a new blue bag having complained that now only the blue boxes were being collected from. If you live outside the 'pilot' area and have seen the changes of rounds affecting you - good or bad - then please get in touch and let me know so we can try spotting any trends.
