  1. I thought that you needed to have a landline to get broadband. I wouldn't be without my landline anyway even though I tend to use my mobile more than the landline these days.

With reference to the Fox's comment about Freephone numbers not being free on mobiles I am with Three Mobile and Freephone numbers (0800 ones) are indeed free.

  2. Leonard Sachs introduced the acts on The Good Old Days with long winded descriptions of what each performer did. Although many of the words that he used were probably not found in any dictionary they were instantly identifiable as soon as the performer started his act.

Stanley Unwin (occasionally known as 'Professor' Stanley Unwin) spoke complete gobbledy gook by mixing words up but at the end of what were often long winded and seemingly meaningless sentences it was possible (just) to understand what he was talking about. His was a very unusual speciality act and I think that he probably appeared on The Good Old Days although how Leonard Sachs would have introduced him I can't imagine.

  3. Not wishing to be a 'Job's comforter' but a mate of mine is in the same situation. About 3 weeks ago he discovered what he thought was a minor leak behind his kitchen cabinets. When he got a plumber in to investigate it became apparent that the leak had been running for some considerable time and because of the very unusual layout of his house the ceiling of a bedroom that was situated below the kitchen was about to collapse. All of the kitchen cabinets (which had not been fitted very long) had to come out and he has had 2 dehumidifiers running for over a fortnight to dry out the walls and ceiling. The builders were due in yesterday to start rebuilding the damaged areas.

Basically, what I am trying to say is that, yes, I reckon that you will need a dehumidifier. Hope the damage is not too bad but water is insidious and gets into places that you never even knew existed. I would say that expert advice was required.

  4. You don't need to 'set up' a Direct Debit. If there was one in force for this year it will just carry on with the latest figure. Not so with a 'Standing Order'. That does have to be set up each time the payment changes.

Didn't realise they were back. They were very popular in the 60's/70's and I had several. Believe it or not I was considered to be very trendy when I wore one. Must have a look in the bottom drawer.

They used to be 'chiropodists' but I think that 'podiatrist' has become the norm (sounds a bit more high falutin' don't you think?)

  7. Thanks, guys. I am arriving at Euston but I am staying at Tower Bridge. I am a fairly regular visitor to London but my knowledge is mainly of north of the river. I'll try the LB to Peckham Rye run to start with (I do have an Oyster card).
  8. Thanks, BigED. I've since had a look at the TFL site and it suggests your alternative route. I'm travelling down from Merseyside and it's my first time to that part of London so I'm on strange territory. I'll give the train/bus route a go.
