Thanks so much for this, ladies - exactly what I was looking for. I have some questions for a couple of you and will pm you, if I may.

I'm about to go back to work after my first baby, and I don't feel I want to work full time (I'm a lawyer) in the city again - but I do still want to maintain an interesting and busy career. I am thinking of different options, including going freelance. If I'm going to make changes to my lifestyle, I want it to work when my child's at school (so needs picking up at 3) as well as now when he's in full-time daycare. I don't know too many people with slightly older kids, hence asking for advice here.

So - I'm looking for examples of mums of kids aged 5 and above who have managed to combine an interesting career and being there for their kids. Clearly this is totally subjective and everyone has different ideas of what it means to keep their career going and also how much they wanted to be around at home but I'm looking to hear from people who are happy with their balance. In particular I'd like to hear from anyone who has slightly unusual working hours such as contract work, and how they manage the childcare to cover this. I'd also love to know what doesn't work!

I think it is really difficult balancing the safety of them being colder with everyone being able to sleep! As usual being a parent it is hard to know what to do for the best!

Radiator not a bad idea- thanks! Re putting sheets or blankets over him, he tosses and turns so much I am always worried he will end up underneath them. I suppose it doesn't matter if it is a cellular blanket - is that right?

On Sunday night it went as low as 12, but normally 14-16 degrees in the middle of the night. It's 19-20 with the heating on.

Our 10 month old keeps waking up at night when he's in his room and as he sleeps fine in our room and at other peoples' houses we've come to the conclusion he's getting cold. Is anyone already using 3.5 tog sleeping bags? Am nervous he will be too hot during the evening when we have the heating on. He's currently in a vest, sleep suit and 2.5 tog bag. Any advice gratefully received! He can't stay in his travel cot in our room for the whole winter!

Please could I have recommendations for a surveyor to give me a homebuyers survey for my house purchase? Do all surveyors cover all types/ value of house?

You can also call Clare kedves at kings, direct - she's their tongue tie expert. We were seen v quickly and she would have arranged for it to be done on the NHs (you do need 2 referrals, but she can provide both by seeing you twice). I went to see Katie fisher/Patel privately though as I was in a rush, and was v happy. It was worth seeing Clare though as the tongue tie started to grow back after a couple of weeks, and she helped with that.
