  1. What a nightmare this simple road closure is turning into

First, I had no idea there was a consultation - why don?t they do one (properly for regular road users) - under 80 people resonded to th official consultation (I read)

2nd there are no signs indicating it is blocked off especially at Dog Kennel Hill lights by the school so me and other countless vehicles (including a Southwark Councillorry) had to turn round at the cycle lane - warning there?s a camera for any misdemeanours !

    3. How is this improving traffic flow ? At 9:30am, a journey to a gardening client took 20 mins and normally takes 5 mins - the traffic jam at the Denmark Hill Stan traffic lights was further back than the George Canning PH

Surely this can?t be permanent ?

Anyone have any info as to whom to complain to ?

I?m just fed up of London Co7ncils making driving for all more and more ridiculous - if you can?t park any where they just close or block off a really handy locals routs - we are constantly being forced down the main road route with endless queues, frustration and costs.

    Is it me?

  2. A very happy new gardening year everyone. Get the best out of your garden this year by starting early.

I know its a bit nippy momentarily, but here's some of the work you can be doing now (or I can help you with. Strike now while plants are mostly dormant and whilst gardeners are in their quieter period) -

Cutting back: any herbaceous perennials from last year

Pruning: rambling roses, apple/pear trees, Boston Ivy/Virginia Creeper and wisteria (at the end of January.

Tidy: lawns/patios/paths of leaves, tree debris etc.

Digging: flower/vegetable beds (improves the soil.)

Lawns - repair bumps/hollows - give a light trim if too long (not when very cold/freezing.) Winter feed.

Planting - Deciduous hedging/trees or moving them

Fixing: Fences, pergola's etc whilst vegetation is dormant.

  5. Realise it's the quiet time but there's lots of work that can be done to improve your garden and set it up right for the rest of the year. Presently I have some free days before regular work fires up again in March. I can do any of the following right now:

Good time for pruning roses, perennials, certain trees, weeding, digging over beds (where bulb free),light (high lawn cutting), tidy up pots and tubs, tie in wall shrubs/climbers, raking and sweeping up remaining autumnal/winter debris, planting or moving trees/hedging plants lily bulbs, painting wooden structures/fences etc, pressure washing paths/hard surfaces to remove dirt and moss & levelling lawns

If you need me call/text 07833117241 - happy to provide a free consultation.

  6. Well thanks for some sympathies for my position and for those (clearly more familiar & naturally motoring skilled than I, both with the local highway code rules and driving acumen, than I - oh, and I failed to mention have a perfectly clean licence for 30 ++ years, or am I going to kick off the ageist provocation? !)

Conclusion - I'm in the Carlos and Andrew 1011 camp as I can't as a local small businessman afford these ridiculous fines and over zealous battering of the fairly average and honest decent driver and person. The alternative is I never go into, through or work in places like Peckham (personally I ain't fussed either way), n

Interestingly, theat's me generally working policy for the whole of Lambeth !

Cheers - I hope to report good news.

  7. Is it me, or is Peckham just a no go area for vehicles any more?

I have had 2 fines recently the first, for having the minutest piece of car tread on a yellow box junction which has a traffic lights system deliberately designed to trap you on it (as the lights are out of sequence so once 2 cars move forward on the green light the next lights changes to red after 3/4 seconds. This is on Peckham Road right outside the bus station (how many have been caught on it I wonder, and how much does this earn for the Council an hour/per day?) I know of 2 other friends recently caught doing exactly what I did. Surely this is a deliberate ploy to catch unsuspecting motorists local or not? I've no idea how visitors to London cope with our magnificent road network.

The second, was along Peckham Rye where if you I turn left as I did, at the traffic lights with E D Rd/Nunhead Lane, you get another ?65 camera infringement ticket - Why? Well you can't turn left or right at these lights, but here's the catch ... if you come on to Peckham Rye via Kinsale Avenue, you can't see the 'no right or left' tunrning sign (that's only one, which you are side on to) as you turn on to Peckham Rye and then the traffic lights were obscured a by bus (both sides) and a cycle sign so you can't see the lights showing straight on only

Sorry, Councillors of Peckham but this is getting ridiculous and just isn't cricket - I am appealing the 2nd one but if Peckham think this is assisting traffic flow etc it isn't, besides which there seems no point at all stopping people turning left at these lights. The bottom line here id it's just making hard working people think twice before driving there again or working there - it wouldn't be so bad if the fines gave you free and more car parking areas.

I realise Councils are strapped for cash but you'll have no passing trade before long if you keep this up! It's quite simply another cash cow Council trap for the unsuspecting motorist who only has one pair of eyes and no defence camera of his own.

Interested to hear from others with similar experiences and appeals advice.

    Ta Paul

  8. The Road works from E & C northbound are a total shambles.

Yesterday on Saturday we abandoned 2 bus journeys after 6pm as the whole area became grid locked.

Even today I went up to Euston at 08:45 and though it was ok going North it wasn't much good coming back - to have so many main roads effectively closed with absolutely no warnings by transport providers or the Councils is a recipe for disaster. The worse thing is there's 3 foot or deeper trenches all over the place on various roads around St George's Circus and no-one to be seen any where doing anything on them - how can this be right?

I'd like to know who's responsible.

  9. It's a growing problem even for us gardeners in the area.

For example, I have had two magnetic signs taken off my vehicle (on separate occasions at different clients houses) which are of absolutely no use to anyone other than me. I have spoken to tree surgeon colleagues who have lost kit and their insured replacements and these are chained and locked away in their vehicle so you need to be vigilant. Even though my tools are insured theft of them is a disaster for the small business e.g. loss of a mower/hedge cutter and I won't tell you how much these are to replace but fairly hefty sums.

I can't offer any simple solutions except plant well, wisely and follow all the normal security procedures e.g. have movement lights, weighted/chained pots/planters etc.

    Paul (another one !)

  11. Is this the same Peter James that was based in Streatham and had a shop recently near King's College Hospital? Note there is also a Peter James Estate Agents (I don't think they are related) locally.

I'd be grateful if anyone has any current contact details for him as I have a query for him.

If anyone knows where he is trading from could they let me know plse.

    Thanks

    Paul

ps Isn't his work insured - I think it's supposed to be. So you might want to go down that route with building problems.
