Cannot recommend Joe highly enough. A lovely guy who is very thorough in his work.

Another recommendation for Joe. A lovely fella who is extremely thorough in his work. He fixed a number of broken cupboard doors for us and sorted out an absolute shambles I had made out of trying to put up some window blinds.

What we need is a Bar with BYOF Bring Your Own Food..
One of the many reasons I love Stormbird.

Beckett would have loved this.

Catalyst, DF, have either of you actually tried the new Boa place? Its quite good and if either of you haven't its really not fair to slag off a new local business on that basis. It's incredibly hard and very risky to start a new venture (as DF actually knows)
Yes I've been twice.I don't see how saying I'm not that into the latest street food trend being repackaged as a semi-formal dining concept is slagging off a business. I'll just keep going to their tapas place instead which I happen do like.
-
I don't get this bao trend. Sure, would work great as a snack in a cafe or a bar but it's not the sort of thing that lends itself to a formal'ish dining experience. Much prefer their tapas place.

Same here. I've always really liked it.

Went in over the Christmas. Place stank of fried food so walked straight out again. Typical loud, soulless gastropub from what I could see. Will try it again but really didn't see what the fuss is all about.

Thankfully, it has long since been abolished - if not for any other reason, the fact that it was completely ineffective, and was more about the feelings and the frustration of the giver to the receiver. No-one who was caned or slapped was actually deterred from taking action, as anyone such as myself who grew up when it was in full swing, will attest.
You and your mates must have been particularly strong willed. However I still wouldn't advocate it's return as I saw adults go over the line too many times.

There are various pubs out there that don't allow kids at any time because of old licensing conditions that have passed down through the years. Craft Beer Co in Brixton is one.

Three years this thread has been going now. Talk about glacial.
-
They work well when low densities of each.
Agreed but it does need to be managed closely. The Regent's Canal in the east end being a good example where it hasn't been and there have been loads of accidents and confrontations as a result.

Given that the last incarnation was 'independent', give me a chain any day, as long as its not one of the big pubcos. Some of my favourite boozers are owned by chains ? notably Antic and Late Knights, locally.
They're not offensive but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Personally I think Camberwell does pubs a lot better whether it be gastro (Crooked Well, Camberwell Arms), old skool career alky (Hermit's Cave), beer nerd (Stormbird).
-
Another cookie cutter pubco boozer.
Does anything that's not a chain ever open in ED these days?

The fact is that people are leaving London in huge numbers, and many of those that stay behind cannot afford to go above a certain threshold, regardless of how much estate agents think the market can increase.
Same here. I've been hemorrhaging friends and acquaintances over the last 2-3 years. These aren't the "not really cut out for London" types either. None of them wanted to leave. They just couldn't afford to stay and build any kind of secure future. Age range being around mid 30's.

I just wish the Telegraph had some couches and more comfortable chairs, but it is a great pub, and definitely over the border in Lewisham. The new Montague arms is fantastic, almost as good as the old. So very thankful it didn't get turned into flats! I actually quite like the Hollydale Tavern too,but I think that's just me.
Even though they're in different boroughs Telegraph Hill and Nunhead are basically the same neighborhood. If anything East Dulwich feels much further removed being on the other side of the park.

Makes a change from all the chains and chazza shops I suppose.

Another happy customer here. Steven and his team took down an old laven ceiling, replaced with a plasterboard one and did all the plastering/skimming etc. A filthy task that I wouldn't wish on anyone but they did a great job of containing the soot and dust. Very fast workers and a fair price.
-
Is it still owned by the same bloke who had The Hamlet Inn/The Vale?
-
I prefer the Gowlett's pizzas to Franco Manca personally.

the bar staff need to get used to the place as seemed quite clueless on the beers but both these should be easy fixes.
Clueless staff is par for the course with most of the places riding the craft beer boom. At least the Flying Pig people are polite and friendly unlike many of their east end counterparts.
Having said that they are some mega knowledgeable people working there. I'm sure the others will pick it up as they go along.

Jeremy Wrote:Oh, we're talking about the Draft House again, are we? At the end of the day the beer selection is good
As someone mentioned earlier the ale selection is already behind the curve for a place trading as a craft beer boozer. Apart from Kernel they only other thing of note they used to have on was a few decent Sierra Nevada seasonals now and again.
Although at least they had some business claiming to be a craft beer bar unlike those chancers at the Clock House. Do they still have that ridiculous sign outside trying to pass off a load of macro stuff as craft?

Still loving this place. Never thought I'd be a 10 minute walk from a place selling two different types of gueuze.
Looking forward to the cocktail menu starting up.

would like a wheat beer though)
They had this on tap although probably not the style of wheat beer you were looking for (US vs. German/Belgian).
