  1. @Dogkennelhillbilly I agree. And it's only a matter of time before they try again. A 29% increase in passengers is not a good thing.
  2. Good news (mostly). The Government has just announced that it has rejected a key part of London City Airport’s to expand. It has refused permission for planes to operate on Saturday afternoons , thus preserving the 24 hr weekend break from the planes. It has granted the airport permission to operate more planes during the first half hour of operation from 6.30am till 7am and to increase annual passenger numbers from 6.5 million to 9 million. Full report here (I haven't read it all yet)
  3. HI, Another very happy customer here! Vic and his son hung a door, put up shelves, boxed in ugly pipes & added kickboards among other jobs. Extremely neat and precise work - they'll be my first call from now on.
  4. Hi All, Thank you to everyone who took time to take part in the poll. The results currently are: Of 89 responses only 81% were aware of the proposed expansion, 93% are against the expansion, and 93% will be affected by the noise (see attachment). I've also attached the Hacan East (not mine) opening statement to the inquiry. A huge amount of time and work went into creating it. You can follow them for updates at https://www.hacaneast.org.uk/home or https://www.facebook.com/hacaneast . They also have a crowdfunder to pay for legal and expert witnesses if you would like to help https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hacan-east-635?utm_term=QKE3WjYYA inq-02_hacan_east_-_opening_statement_final_5-12-23.pdfsurvey London City Airport Expansion Plans - Google Forms.pdf Best wishes, Tony
  5. Hello, I'm Tony and have lived on Kestrel Avenue, Herne Hill for 15 years. On Monday, I am making a personal statement at the Public Enquiry into London City Airport expansion plans. The proposal is to increase capacity with more flights and - crucially for the local area - they are proposing that the respite time of 12.30 Saturday (noon-ish) to 12.30 Sunday is removed. This would mean more flights taking off /landing and passing over the local area at heights of around 500-600m (the Heathrow flights go over at around 1100m). From the Explane app, flights at 1100m give noise levels around 65db but at 600m (depending on type of plane) noise levels can be 70db-80db. There has not been much publicity about this and I wanted to get some idea of how aware people are about this and how they felt. If you would like to read more about this, here are the documents submitted so far to the inquiry https://gateleyhamer-pi.com/en-gb/lcal/inquiry-documents/documents-submitted-during-inquiry-copy-2/ I only found out about the enquiry this week hence the short notice. I have set up a short 3 question Google survey: https://forms.gle/E7DxhxvPbr5BDF4D8 If you have the time to complete the survey it would be very helpful. (I will not be collecting any email addresses or personal information) Best wishes, Tony
  6. Hi, Another recommendation for Victor who I found from the forum recommendations. Victor and his son fixed my garden gate using what he could from existing materials. Arrived on time and very reasonably priced. They will be my first call if I need anything doing in future. Tony [email protected] or call 07885537463
  7. Hi, I also would recommend Sarah 100%. I hadn't driven for many years and was apprehensive about driving again especially as I had just had a not-great experience with another (non-local) instructor. She's patient, encouraging and you're never made to feel stupid. I thought it would take a lot more lessons than it did but I am now driving again. And she is a genuinely nice person. Tony
  8. Hi, Would 100% recommend James. Punctual, clean van and couldn't be more helpful. Used twice yesterday. bw Tony
  9. Thank you. This is very useful. And how blissfully quiet are the skies today!
  10. Hi, On the London City Airport form (which is designed to confuse and only get the answers they want)there is the following option about design priorities: "In what order would you prioritise the following design principles . . 4. Should improve resilience during abnormal operating conditions" - what does that mean/refer to?
  11. Hi, Apologies if this has been posted but I had an email from Helen Hayes about a Heathrow consultation that's happening in Lambeth today. It hasn't been very well publicised by Heathrow of course. ''I wanted to be sure that you are aware that there is a public consultation event on Heathrow Airport which will be held in Lambeth on Thursday 18th July. The consultation will be held at Wheatsheaf Community Hall, Wheatsheaf Lane, off South Lambeth Road, London SW8 2UP from 2-8pm. I have previously written to the CEO of Heathrow Airport to raise concerns about the scope of the previous consultation, which was overwhelmingly focused on the areas close to Heathrow, and did not include any events in my constituency. I am therefore pleased that, even though this event is not in my constituency, it is being held in Lambeth. I strongly encourage you to attend the event or to submit your views into this process. ''
  12. A few thoughts regarding this consultation: 1.On the leaflet that came through the door, there is not a single consultation event in south east London. 2. On Wentrak there is only one point in SE London (Camberwell) noise levels are taken despite it being the area where plane engines 'spool-up" (https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/12997/if-airplanes-cant-use-reverse-thrust-in-flight-what-am-i-hearing) ie make that sudden loud noise, 3. There is no account taken of the cumulative annoyance from City Airport flights particularly the new planes that have been allowed there. They may be quieter at cruising speed but when they are accelerating away from the airport they are definitely louder than the original permitted planes.
  13. ...and City Airport may increase the number of flights. With their noisier jets it could be very unpleasant. https://www.itv.com/news/2018-07-09/london-city-airport-may-seek-permission-for-more-flights/
  14. Woken at 4.30 this morning - it's going to be a long day :-( Looking at http://webtrak5.bksv.com/lhr4 flight tracking, I wondered why there are no noise monitoring stations east of Richmond park?
  15. ...and the address on it isn't in London so don't want to put it in the post just yet.
