  3. Hi All,

Thank you to everyone who took time to take part in the poll. The results currently are:

Of 89 responses only 81% were aware of the proposed expansion, 93% are against the expansion, and 93% will be affected by the noise (see attachment).

I've also attached the Hacan  East (not mine) opening statement to the inquiry.  A huge amount of time and work went into creating it. You can follow them for updates at https://www.hacaneast.org.uk/home or https://www.facebook.com/hacaneast .

They also have a crowdfunder to pay for legal and expert witnesses if you would like to help https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hacan-east-635?utm_term=QKE3WjYYA

  4. Hello, I'm Tony and have lived on Kestrel Avenue, Herne Hill for 15 years.
On Monday, I am making a personal statement at the Public Enquiry into London City Airport expansion plans.  The proposal is to increase capacity with more flights and - crucially for the local area - they are proposing that the respite time of 12.30 Saturday (noon-ish) to 12.30 Sunday is removed. This would mean more flights taking off /landing and passing over the local area at heights of around 500-600m (the Heathrow flights go over at around 1100m). From the Explane app, flights at 1100m give noise levels around 65db but at 600m (depending on type of plane) noise levels can be 70db-80db.
There has not been much publicity about this and I wanted to get some idea of how aware people are about this and how they felt.
If you would like to read more about this, here are the documents submitted so far to the inquiry https://gateleyhamer-pi.com/en-gb/lcal/inquiry-documents/documents-submitted-during-inquiry-copy-2/
I only found out about the enquiry this week hence the short notice. I have set up a short 3 question Google survey:
If you have the time to complete the survey it would be very helpful. (I will not be collecting any email addresses or personal information)
    Best wishes,
    Tony

  5. Hi,

I also would recommend Sarah 100%. I hadn't driven for many years and was apprehensive about driving again especially as I had just had a not-great experience with another (non-local) instructor. She's patient, encouraging and you're never made to feel stupid. I thought it would take a lot more lessons than it did but I am now driving again. And she is a genuinely nice person.

I'm based in Herne Hill and I've just started my online business making handmade lampshades. The fabrics are digitally printed, some of which are my own designs and so are exclusive. In the case of the Kestreldesigns - if there is a particular base colour you wanted but can't see drop me an email and I'll try help.

  7. Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions for insurers that will include home business insurance with home contents insurance. I'm starting a small online business from home, won't be employing anybody but will have some stock at home. My current home contents insurer (I rent - landlord is ok with it) says running a home business will invalidate my insurance but won't allow me to add a business insurance portion.

Would be grateful for any advice from people who have been through the same.

    Best wishes,

    Tony

  8. Hi,

Apologies if this has been posted but I had an email from Helen Hayes about a Heathrow consultation that's happening in Lambeth today. It hasn't been very well publicised by Heathrow of course.

''I wanted to be sure that you are aware that there is a public consultation event on Heathrow Airport which will be held in Lambeth on Thursday 18th July. The consultation will be held at Wheatsheaf Community Hall, Wheatsheaf Lane, off South Lambeth Road, London SW8 2UP from 2-8pm.

I have previously written to the CEO of Heathrow Airport to raise concerns about the scope of the previous consultation, which was overwhelmingly focused on the areas close to Heathrow, and did not include any events in my constituency. I am therefore pleased that, even though this event is not in my constituency, it is being held in Lambeth. I strongly encourage you to attend the event or to submit your views into this process. ''

  9. A few thoughts regarding this consultation:

1.On the leaflet that came through the door, there is not a single consultation event in south east London.

    2. On Wentrak there is only one point in SE London (Camberwell) noise levels are taken despite it being the area where plane engines 'spool-up" (https://aviation.stackexchange.com/questions/12997/if-airplanes-cant-use-reverse-thrust-in-flight-what-am-i-hearing) ie make that sudden loud noise,

    3. There is no account taken of the cumulative annoyance from City Airport flights particularly the new planes that have been allowed there. They may be quieter at cruising speed but when they are accelerating away from the airport they are definitely louder than the original permitted planes.

'It is costing other tax payers money to keep people in work.'

This is true. Also true is tax payers are subsidising profit making companies who then, in a double whammy, do not pay tax on those profits. This is how public money is being diverted to private companies.

  11. Hi Tillie, totally feel for you too! At least I have only me to look after. Thanks for sharing as it is important that people see the real stories and not the sensationalist rubbish that press and government feed us.
  12. This is quite a long one but I think it's important to let people know what the reality is and also don't think it couldn't happen to you.

Now the Tories are in expect a sharp drop in the number of unemployed signing on. Not that there will be any more people working but they are removing people signing on by imposing arbitrary conditions.

Unfortunately I had to sign on last year which is the last thing I wanted. I'd been job hunting but discovered that being 53 my job market is limited. I'm doing all the things like networking, LinkedIn, volunteering etc.

In February, with the full knowledge (and approval)of the Job Centre I started studying to get a professional qualification to back-up my actual experience and I paid for this course myself (?1700)which I am committed to, I purposely chose the course because although I have to attend college two days a week it still left me lots of time to job hunt and also if I got a job I could easily switch to an evening course.

On Wednesday, at a job centre review, I was told that I could no longer claim JSA (and consequentially housing benefits) because they've decided that the amount of study I would need to do outside the course would be added to my time in class and that would exceed the 16 hours study permitted.

They won't give me any idea of how they decided I would need so much study nor are there any official guidelines anywhere(I've actually averaged over 90% in exams so far with minimal outside study as it is material I've experience of already.)

When I spoke to the college advisor he told me that recently he has had a surge in people coming to him with the same problem and it is a ruse to get people off the register. You can appeal but it is a laborious and frustrating task. Many people feel they will then be victimised if they sign back on (eg have to sign on everyday, be sanctioned for not achieving unrealistic targets for job apps etc) and so don't bother to claim what they are entitled to.

So 30 years of paying National Insurance is worthless.

The most illogical thing about the whole matter - if I stopped doing the course (thereby reducing my chances of getting work) I could sign on again immediately.

  13. A few weeks ago a Petermans board appeared outside my flat (one of three in the house none of which were let by or managed by Petermans), on the fence post shared with our neighbours. I noticed then that a lot of Petersen boards had suddenly appeared around the streets always on houses that had a number of flat conversions. I spoke to my neighbours and they confirmed that none in their house were let by Petermans and the same applied to the the flats across the road. My neighbour there told me they had rung Petermans to remove it and the person on the end of the phone had been 'less than helpful' so she took it down herself. It might be that they are going around putting up boards outside houses/buildings with multiple flats hoping that the residents will assume the board is referring to another flat.
