  1. We had one that projected stars and played lullabies. It was a soft toy bee with a hard plastic back. I know we used it but can’t recall how effective it was. 

    What was brilliant was the Lulla sleep doll which has a heart beat sound. That was a critical sleep aid for the first couple of years. 

  2. We use Electroverse, which lets you charge across most of the networks. As Octopus Energy customers it’s also added directly to our energy bill which is handy. I tend to use the char.gy lamppost chargers as there are more of those around our house.
     

    Source has a really aggressive idling charge given they are slow chargers - kicking in after 10 mins rather than after 24hrs with chargy - I tend to leave our car to charge overnight once a week on a schedule to take advantage of chargy’s overnight rate. That wouldn’t work with Source. 
     

    When I need a faster charger to fill up before a long trip the ones at Tessa Jowell are handy but more expensive than the slow onstreet ones. Remember to register your licence plate when you arrive to avoid a parking fine. 

  3. My understanding is that for last year there was an oversupply of school spaces and that even The Belham (which had been massively oversubscribed in the past) wasn’t completely full. I’d call them about mid year entry, in our son’s year group there always seem to be a couple of kids joining each year and a few leaving to move away. Once your 5 year old is in all schools give priority to siblings so your 3-year old will be fine  

    For nurseries our son’s friends at the Belham seem to have mostly been at The Villa or Little Jungle. 

    For public transport I think it’s better to be near Peckham Rye than East Dulwich because there are far more lines. There are loads of roads that would get you into The Belham and be 10 mins walk from the station, anything North of Amott and West of Copplestone is probably ok.

    Unfortunately, whilst preventing speeding is a good thing, giving that power to councils and allowing them to keep the fines isn't.

    If you don’t speed you can’t get fined. Why is enforcing the law for motorists considered unjust? 

  5. For halls you have the Copplestone Centre, the community centre in Nunhead and the centre in Dulwich park. The only one with a hall and bar that I can think of is the Liberal Club in Peckham but that’s very large (The Belham hold their school discos there). The Nunhead centre is at least next to the pub, which might work depending on the age of the kids. I seem to recall that the centre at Dulwich park were fine with people bringing alcohol in.

    I’ve run past there over the last few days. The space between the end of the current double yellow lines and the start of the dropped curb is not a full car length. At the moment there is a transit van parked there that overhangs both the driveway and the double yellows. I expect this severely limits visibility for someone trying to exit the driveway for that block of flats. I expect the 6m of double yellows is to cover the existing small space plus the driveway (which currently has white hazard lines instead).  

    The proposal isn’t as ridiculous as it first seems. 

  7. The sign has a red outline “prohibition” circle with a car and a motorcycle in it, plus timing information. I believe the village has a solid blue “mandatory instruction” circle showing only busses are permitted. Different signs for different purposes. 
     

    I don’t understand this mindset from some posters that council staff are thinking “we’re going to claim to put in place a scheme make it less likely that school children are run over but secretly we want people to ignore our signs and drive through anyway so we can fine them instead”! They could have implemented a full closure like outside Bellenden Road Primary School  (at the end of Nutbrook) and then we’d have a forum full of “why can’t we have camera controls” like we do about the closures in Dulwich Village!

  8. There was a definite problem of vans, cars and occasionally old taxis being ‘stored’ on Adys and Nutbrook. Povided they were taxed they could sit there for months at a time as the council had no power to move them.
     

    Parking is a little better now but it was never horrendous. I don’t see how extending hours would improve anything.

    That wasn’t what I said. I said close the rat run especially for commercial traffic, HGVs and coaches. You could still retain access without having residential roads with three schools on them being subject to dangerous traffic. The fact the bollard at the corner of Nutbrook and Adys gets knocked over on a weekly basis shows that vehicles are using these streets that cannot safely navigate them without driving across pavements.

    Cars turning left into Adys from Nutbrook- including huge lorries that use the route- once they see the sign, won't be able to escape via Gowlett Road as that section is also in the zone. Cars coming into Adys from the South and then seeing the sign will have to divert down the  very narrow  section of East Dulwich Road that runs by the church

    Well the TMO states term time only as does the Southwark schools streets page. I’m generally fairly down on Southwark but I doubt they’d do something so cynically unlawful. 
     

    I agree the closures are badly placed and will trap traffic. In the consultation and directly to the highways team (copying my local councillors) I suggested bringing the closure back to the corner of Nutbrook or at least advanced warning signs further up Adys and Nutbrook. Unfortunately I was ignored. 

  11. What time(s) is this in effect from and what roads get an exemption if you live in them? I didn’t know anything about this!

     

    You have to live within the restriction (ie on Adys roughly between Ondine and Amott or a short distance down either of those roads). There are also exemptions for registered carers of people living in those houses and for parents on children with mobility needs who go to SJSC. We’re further up Adys and so now cannot drive south during the period of operation.

  12. I think the positioning of the closure on Adys Rd is going to cause chaos, with traffic in both directions having no avenue for escape by the time the signs are visible. People turning left out of Nutbrook onto Adys will be particularly stuck.


    I’m supportive of the scheme, as Adys is used as a rat run for commercial vehicles and there are often angry confrontations between motorists and pedestrians around the school, but I think the positioning of the signage could be improved.

  13. The Western edge of S15 (‘Bellenden Village’) is worth looking at e.g. Choumert, Nutbrook, Ogglander. The pros over SE22 are better transport links via Peckham Rye vs East or North Dulwich or Forrest Hill. It’s also marginally cheaper.


    The Belham is a good state primary and the Villa is well regarded for pre-school. Peckham Rye is as good as Dulwich Park for outdoor space.


    Depending on where in the city you’re based the commute is pretty good. I work on Fleet St and can drop my son at before school clubs at 7:50 and comfortably be at my desk by 8:30 with a coffee in hand.


    The Thameslink takes you to Blackfriars, City Thameslink and Farringdon. The overground links to the Elizabeth line for Liverpool St and District line for Aldgate/Tower. Plus you have Southern for London Bridge and a walk/bus to Monument/Bank or on to the Northern Line for Moorgate etc. What I like is the flexibility that if one line has problems then there are alternative routes.

  14. I’ve had to do it a couple of times after building work failed and had to be redone.


    The claim is pretty straightforward, you do it all online and only need to go to court if the claim is defended and the judge feels it’s necessary.


    The big challenge is getting paid after gaining a judgment in your favour. On both occasions the builders essentially abandoned the companies they were directors of and did a runner. The first time I got enough from the company’s bank account to cover my court fees and nothing else. The second time I haven’t recovered anything even after appointing bailiffs.
