Hard to believe isn't it. But I work for a specialist consultancy firm in the construction industry and this has occurred previously on one of my colleague's projects. It does happen. A scaffolding company was caught. I hold nothing against scaffolding firms as a whole, I am certain most would never operate outside of the law.

  2. Always have a scaffold alarm. Not just for your own security, but for neighbours as well.

Very sorry to hear that this scaffolding was stolen. For this to occur you would need a few people that generally understand how these things are constructed and deconstructed. I doubt that the thieves would have put their own lives at risk and so would have had to dismantle in the correct sequence. If they hadn't you probably would have arrived home to a collapsed scaffold.

Personally i'd point the finger at other scaffolding firms, or people that work for a scaffolding company looking to make a bit of extra cash on the side.

  3. There are many reasons why glass cracks. I would doubt that your roof window is toughened, therefore a nickel sulfide failure can most likely be ruled out. What do the cracks look like? Do you have a photograph? Could be thermal stress cracks...
  4. Hi Cats_pyjamas,

It largely depends what defines the damp and timber survey and the professional qualifications that the surveyor possesses.

Damp can often be misdiagnosed, particularly rising damp. I would recommend that anyone you approach to carry out this survey gives you an example report to look at before you commit, so that you know what to expect. This isn't an unreasonable request and we have to do it quite often within our company! If you need any further advice please let me know.

  5. Hello there,

Happy to pop over and have a look at your dampness issue and discuss, non chargeable for the initial visit as I am local.

If you would like me to visit please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and we can go from there.

For your info our company website is www.sandberg.co.uk

We are consultants and provide advice and testing if required. We don't carry out remedial work but we might be able to assist on recommending contractors as we use a lot of companies in the city.

  6. Agreed with AbDabs.

We provide damp survey services and frankly we only get involved when there has actually been a problem. Even if we attend site and see a damp stain somewhere, the question has to be raised as to whether it is 'historic'. Seems a little premature to suggest issues with construction before getting visual evidence.

    I'd tread carefully.

The surveyor you mentioned appears to have noted a possible bridging of the damp proof course, which occurs if construction materials block the damp proof course and thus allows water to become trapped and soak in to the construction. In order to determine that, however, you would need to find out exactly where the DPC lies.

Another thing i'd be weary of is advice from some damp proof contractors, as some are really just out to make a fast buck.

We carry out damp surveys and also laboratory testing if required. If you need any of this please get in touch. Our offices are in Clapham and Victoria and I live in Goose Green so can offer a non-chargeable visit to site to discuss the problems you may be having.
