Europe off the beaten track- holiday ideas?
hislordship replied to Minitoots's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Not mainland, but we went to the Azores (the remotest you'll get in Europe I think) a couple of years back, and will definitely go again. I don't think there are any direct flights, so all in, it takes almost a day to get there, esp. if you go to one of the smaller islands. We rented a little farmhouse, and hardly saw anyone for 10 days. Sensational and unusual scenery, sub-tropical climate and absolutely nothing happening. Bliss. -
Watching season 5 also - can't help thinking it's not going to end so well for Quin and private detective friend :-)

As a former scooterist and now proper motorcyclist, I'd agree the training for scooters is dismal. You can get on geared 125cc, capable of 70 odd MPH after one days training that even a monkey could get through. A couple of hours is just classroom work, a couple more in a car park, and then a couple on the road. The new motorbike test is actually pretty good - the final test is about 45 mins. on the road, and you are not allowed to make a single serious fault. A serious fault is anything that causes another vehicle to have to make any sort of evasive action, even such as changing speed. You generally have to do 5 days training or almost 40 hours. You can get a private pilot license with 40 hours! -
I'm glad we are calling them what they really are now - I've always felt the word 'scrummy mom' or whatever the word is to be an oxymoron. >:D

pedestrian crossing east dul grove/lordship lane
hislordship replied to rgutsell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I've thought about this a few times, from both driver and pedestrian perspectives. Lights or yellow crossing would only snarl up the area even more. I reckon a bridge with 3/4 ramps would be best - maybe with a little seating area on the top. Too expensive I expect though - I bet we'll just get yet more lights one day. -

I too have a genetic tendency for high cholesterol - I'm very fit and eat healthy to the extreme, but it still sometimes goes as high as 8. I will be on statins in a few years for the rest of my life - there's nothing that can be done. Shit genes.
