  1. Carry Hornby will be leading a wonderful creative Chinese Calligraphy activity at Goose Green Coffee Morning.
     
    We will open at 11 o'clock for tea, coffee and cake, with the calligraphy session starting at about 11:30.

  2. The parish of St John the Evangelist, East Dulwich wishes to appoint a new Parish Administrator with effect March/April 2023.


    We are seeking a well-organised and diplomatic individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills to join us as our new Parish Administrator, working alongside staff, volunteers and community groups. The role is key to the life of St John’s, enabling the smooth and effective running of the church as an organisation. Working primarily with the Vicar, they provide administrative support, prepare materials for services and church events, manage the church diary and Goose Green Centre bookings, handle internal and external communications and administer DBS Safeguarding checks. The Parish Administrator also has a role in the safe and smooth running of the building.


    This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an approachable personality, good office, organisational and IT skills, and experience in online communications.

     

    • 25 hours per week, which can be worked flexibly by agreement. Salary £14.50 per hour.

    • Statutory holidays (including bank holidays) of 140 hours per year.

    • This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

  3. Come and try out our new singing activity, singing along to songs from various world traditions. The group will be led by experienced community musician Steve Barbe and is open to all, even if you think you can't sing!


    We are open from 11 o'clock for tea, coffee and cake. The singing starts at 11:30.

  4. Our guest speaker is Marcus Dickey Horley, Curator of Access Projects at the Tate Gallery. Join us for this talk in which some of the wonderful highlights of the Tate Gallery collections are described and discussed. Marcus will describe the history of the Tate Gallery, from its origins near East Dulwich to its spread right across the Nation. The talk will be accompanied by described images and also by the use of handling objects and tactile replicas and so this talk is particularly suitable for people who are partially sighted or who might enjoy being able to touch.

  5. Keith Turpin will be giving a talk entitled 'Southwark's Royal Connections: from King Canute to Princess Margaret' at Goose Green Coffee Morning on Wednesday 8 June. We are open from 11 o'clock, meaning you can get a coffee etc before the talk starts at 11:30.

  6. Everyone is very welcome to come and hear local author Anne Coates's talk on 'Finding Inspiration'. Anne Coates is the author of the Hannah Weybridge series of crime novels, featuring localities in East Dulwich and Peckham. This will be a great opportunity to get some insight in to the experience of being a writer.


    We are open for coffee, tea and cake from 11am, Anne's talk will begin at 11:30. Find us inside St John's Church, 62a East Dulwich Road, SE22 9AT.

  8. Goose Green Coffee Morning is now meeting in St John's East Dulwich churchyard every Wednesday, from 11:30 until 1, weather permitting. Everyone is welcome to drop in for coffee, tea, cake and a chat; it's a great chance to meet others from the community. Do pop in!

  9. Goose Green Coffee Morning will be hosting a talk on Zoom by John Birkett of RSPB Croydon Local Group entitled 'What is happening to our birds?' on the 30th June at 12 o'clock. Do join us for what promises to be a very interesting talk based on local bird surveys over the last 25 years. We are open from 11:30 for chat with the talk starting at 12 o'clock.

  13. We are delighted to be hosting this short talk by Marcus Dickey Horley, Curator of Public Programmes at Tate. Marcus will be talking about the Tate Gallery and focusing on two of the highlights from its collection. Each work will be carefully explained and interpreted, with detailed descriptions and a chance to share and discuss your responses to them.

  14. An opportunity to get creative and escape the lock-down blues!


    Goose Green Coffee Morning will be hosting our second virtual art class led by The Arts Factory, this time looking at creating a still life in charcoal. You will be helped to develop skills in creating form and making subtle changes in tonal values.
