I wonder how many people here saying the market should be closed are people who disliked having the market there anyway. And I wonder how many people ill in hospital now are there because having nine months of "stay at home" and cancelled operations is really bad for our health, but that's another argument.

I would be interested to see how the rise of the likes of Uber has contributed to traffic problems in the last few years. I remember sitting on a near-empty night bus a couple of years ago, coming down Brixton Rd, past a long queue of Toyota Prius minicabs, each one with a single passenger in the back. A few years before that, everyone would have been crammed on the nightbus. Now everyone is too posh to get the bus, it seems! Or the cabs are just more affordable now.

Anyway. My daily morning journey into Dulwich Village (from 5 or 6 miles away) now takes five minutes longer since the timed bus gates came in. This is still much quicker (and nicer) than getting the train or bus. It will have to get a lot worse than that to get me out of my car. I would even pay a few quid a day to drive in, if public transport links can't be improved.

Given that the roads in Dulwich Village are fine when the private schools are on holiday, I would say most of the traffic in the village is, like me, coming from much further than 1 or 2 miles away.

Nice to see more people on bikes in the village, though - definitely a lot more Niholas etc cruising around in the morning.

Rockets, hello. Looking at Southwark's maps, I reckon the signs at the LL end of Court Lane are probably just warning people that they won't be able to get to East Dulwich Grove along that way (i.e. by Court Lane > Calton) at those times.

I say this because there's a similar sign on the other side of the village at the Croxted/Turney crossroads - you'll be able to drive from Croxted Rd onto Turney Rd past the sign, it's just referring to the cameras further along Turney at the Burbage junction.

In the higher years(age 9-11) I reckon you're more likely to get a place. I think the classes are (more) full lower down, but good luck. Families do tend to move away fairly often, so places will/should come up.

It is easy enough to pay by non-smartphone - I do it sometimes in the North Dulwich area with my old phone. It takes about 10 mins to set up your account the first time (reg number and debit/credit card details) and then two or three minutes to pay each time.

Agreed. I've had a number of close passes from Clarkes coaches while cycling up Lordship Lane, but pretty much all coach drivers are aggressive and pushy on the roads... maybe we just remember the Clarkes close passes because of the distinctive livery.

You may have a point, dbboy. Sadly with funding declining, seems like the museum is deciding it has to try and "monetise" its outdoor spaces. (Same happening in our parks, with all the music festivals...)

Looks like there are some excellent ideas in there, especially putting the ugly old boating pond to good use, which should also have the benefit of luring a lot of the local parents with little ones away from the museum. I like this line "demographic changes locally have contributed to a decrease in visitor diversity", which I assume is a polite way of saying the place is overrun with the mumsnet crowd...?

Hi. We got in on distance living at the south end of Lordship Lane, about 1.5 miles away, but this was a few years ago and I think the school is more popular now.

Not sure where you'd get detailed/up-to-date info, but I would recommend living within easy walking/scooting/cycling distance from whatever school you go to, because traffic and public transport can be such a pain in the morning.

School fair is on Sunday 30th June in the afternoon, by the way, if you fancy a look around the lovely leafy grounds!

Exactly. If a shop I regularly go into starts getting too chummy or chatty with me, I will start avoiding it. That said, I do like the French way of bonjour/au revoir when you arrive/leave!

..so I think the blame is on the people in the car. And if the car's not obviously parked up to let people out, that makes it impossible for someone filtering past to anticipate a door opening. Dangerous stuff that should be more severely punished than it is, I reckon.
