But this isn't about leading a good life or finding links between faiths. It is about how to react to outrage.

The Times newspaper front page showing a cartoon of a 'satirical' dildo shoved up the Queen's arse would begin to progress the issue.

But most of the liberal press, and its readers, are thinking, especially this week,'how do we respond to these Paris killings' And a liberal mind, with a tinge of anger or repressed violence, can easily confuse 'teach' with 'respond'.

I'm surprised that knowing or not knowing the defendant is an issue in this case. Surely most rapes occur between people who know each other?

There is an idea going round that all the newspapers should get together, on the same day, and publish a picture of Mohammed in order to demonstrate solidarity against the Paris killings and somehow 'show' how we feel about freedom of speech.

This rubs salt into the wound, why insult muslims further?

So this is an idea.

For the media to publish boldly, on the same day, something that is truly offensive to their own deeply help beliefs or icons but not of an islamic nature. For example, Tatler magazine putting a cartoon of the Queen Mother giving Hitler a blowy...you get my gist.

This would demonstrate the ability to take offence where as the other way simply enrages people already maddened by insult.

OK here's a plan.

Then exhale using your nostrils and release your finger.

Immediately drink a cup of very cold water while holding your nose.

My best friend dropped dead on Saturday.

Our relationship was so full of love and our 25 years together so full of laughs and music and discussion that I feel I have so much to be thankful for.

Every week like clockwork he would turn up on my doorstep and we would work together. His creativity was astounding and often challenging, sometimes destroying as much as he created. But much survived the creative process, some of which has been posted up on this forum over the recent years.

He was a deeply funny guy and a loving friend.

This new model (plan 2) means that most students wont pay for their university fees, they are simply given a bill that can't be paid. As most objectives go, that one seems a bit pointless.

New students who start this year are deemed plan 2 under a new scheme. These students will be charged 5.5% from day one of their studies until they pay off the loan or within 30 years, whichever is sooner.

Graduates will struggle to pay the interest charged on the loan so the student loan will rise over the years.

For instance a graduate salary of ?25,000 will trigger an annual repayment of ?360 but this will not cover the interest payable (eg 5.5% on a loan of ?45,000 is ?2,475). Hence the loan increases by the difference, in this example, to ?47,115.

The effect on the student and new graduate is defeatist. With little or no hope of preventing the ballooning of their student debt, the graduate is not motivated to pay. Presenting them with an impossible debt mountain that only the very highest earners ( possible just 1% of the population) can tackle is a recipe for disengaging with the system.

The new system seems counter- productive for the government who surely want graduates to pay for their courses. Graduates know that their studies give them a higher chance of earning more and they accept, in general, they should pay for that privilege.

Presenting graduates with an impossible student loan bill will turn responsible young people into cynical tax payers or tax avoiders or goad them to achieve less in their lives.

It might come to a shock to some that new students are being charged 5.5% interest on their loans from day one of their studies.

This means that graduates will need to be on 49K to keep pace with the interest payments.

Harsh.
