  1. It’s not NIMBYism to say I don’t want high-rises in ED ... it’s just not what the area is. Liking the character of where you live isn’t a crime.
  2. @Cyclemonkey I get where you’re coming from, but I just don’t see this fixing anything.. It’ll just make whoever’s living there now a bit poorer, while the real issue gets ignored. In ED over the last 20 years, loads of pretty average terraces have gone up £500k–£1m without anyone doing anything. If we actually want to deal with unearned housing wealth, scrapping the CGT free pass on the main home would make a lot more sense (or at least cap it ...like in many countries)
  3. "They can move" is basically gentrification in a sentence.
  4. What is the fair price for a 7ft Christmas tree nowadays (delivered) ?
  5. Honest Burger is not bad. At least it is a "local" chain...originated in Brixton.
  6. The Chancellor really should have checked this forum ...!
  7. Finally! The Poundland is closing down. Good riddance.
  8. You still have Poundland.
  9. Schools are probably the biggest attraction of East Dulwich - outstanding state schools and prestigious private schools.
  10. The Vale ? Google StreetView from 2008 https://maps.app.goo.gl/M6ke5BmgvyAMWVAy7?g_st=ac
  11. Google Street view has this amazing feature where you can go back in time so you can explore ED in ancient times....well not earlier than 2008.. :)...but it still interesting to see how much LL has changed. https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4562629,-0.0760271,3a,75y,286.56h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sAquCD-EiJqJD2FhRJ0alNQ!2e0!5s20080601T000000!7i13312!8i6656?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDkxNS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
  12. The reality is that private education also helps reduce the burden on state schools. I think it's a bit unfair that families paying for private schools should be penalised as they already are paying towards state education via their taxes. Whats the government is doing with vat increase is to make private education even more elitist. And for people who call for a ban private of education, using the same logic we should also ban private healthcare.
  13. I’m convinced that East Dulwich is one of London’s best areas...nice parks, top-notch schools, and absence of high-rise buildings...etc.. The only downside is a few grumpy people who criticise newcomers and complain about gentrification - while enjoying its perks.
  14. I guess that's the plan. Families who can't afford anymore will move their children to state schools. Hopefully, the government will provide additional spaces and recruit more teachers to meet the increased demand.
  15. The VAT increase will only make private education more exclusive - many dual-income families who prioritise their children's education over material possessions will either struggle or to move them to state schools thus taking some school places. What a poor decision by this government.
