  1. Hi

If you have your bike insured, it's worth checking the T&C's before you invest in a shed, you may find that most policies won't cover it. For what it's worth, putting your bike in a very visible place secured with locks that would require the use of power tools will be enough to put most bike thieves off. You wouldn't want to wake the neighbours would you?!

  2. HI James

Sorry but the figure of ?24 a month is incorrect, a swimming pass is actually ?19 a month with a ?20 admin fee or alternatively ?190 a year.

So that final sum would be (12 x 19)+ 20 = ?248, unless you bought the one off membership of ?190 per year, that's a saving of either ?41 or ?98. It also isn't clear if there would be an admin charge of a similar amount payable on the axess card if so that would make the savings even greater.

What I especially like about having a swimming pass is that on the occasions the swimming lane is full, or not at a similar level to me I can simply cut my losses and go at a different time at no extra cost.

  3. So this thread isn't about all those people using the hired 3 wheel things in dulwich park? Almost lost my ankles to those several times....

With regards to PR Park - TFL advise via their cycle journey planner if going from Dulwich to the east side of Peckham or Nunhead to cycle across the park rather than use the road.

  4. Here is the guidance

I would say that the signage is the main problem, pedestrians simply don't know that there is a cycle lane there and I'm sick of getting abuse from pedestrians who think I'm cycling on the pavement.

On a slightly different note, is that Superdrug lorry allowed to park across the cycle lane forcing cyclists either onto the pavement or into the bus lane? It's there at least once a week.

  5. Hi James

I was wondering if you could help direct me to the correct person to help me. I use Rye Lane daily as part of my cycle route and I'm amazed at just how bad the state of the road has got. With the traffic lights now forcing people to cross lanes and the evenings drawing closer the road is a deathtrap. All it takes is one cyclist to misjudge one of the many holes and they will end up damaging themselves - a new front tooth is currently around ?2k! Sorry, I know this is not your department but if you could post contact details of who is best placed to help it would be great.

    Thanks

  6. Cyclists on the other hand are just a bloody nuisance, getting in the way causing accidents and slowing down traffic, oh and they dont pay road tax either! As for motorcyclists

I think you'll find that nobody pays road tax - A tax of that name was abolished in 1936 and was intended at the time to be a contribution to highway costs. Vehicle Excise Duty, or Car Tax is what many people mistakenly think of as ?road tax?. It isn?t. It no more pays for the road than the VAT on a Mars bar. Local authorities have maintenance responsibility for the roads. Everyone should know that. Especially Council Tax payers, because it says so on their Council Tax accounts. My Local Authority?s highway maintenance budget for this year accounts for some 6% of the precept. Local Authorities? get their funding from a combination of Council Tax and a Treasury Grant from general taxation. So, the roads are for everyone. And everyone pays.

On the other hand if you are going to moan about cyclists who don't pay this tax then you may as well include the drivers of particularly green cars, war pensioners, disabled drivers, and a number of other groups.

  7. Hello

I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with LB Southwark PCN system. I have come home to a notice of execution from some baliffs for a traffic offence committed last July. Not only is this the first I have heard of it (I've moved twice but always updated my reg docs) and I wasn't even driving the car at the time.

In your experience am I just going to have to bite the bullet and pay the thing? The letter says 7 days until I get a "visit" or is it worth a fight even though they have sold the debt on?

  8. Hello!

Now spring has sprung there are a lot more of us cyclists on the roads. Unfortunately this has meant an increase in fatalities with 2 in London in 24 hours last week - both cyclists were killed by lorries turning across them.

Detective Inspector Andy Rose of the Metropolitan Police Collision Investigation Unit, who's studying at London Southbank University has prepared an online survey that aims to improve understanding of how cyclists assess risk when cycling around lorries.

Rose said, "I'm looking to explore specific data with regards to cyclists and Large Goods Vehicles, although the data I obtain will provide broader information as well."

The survey is only open until 6 April 2010, so please tell every cyclist you know to take part, even if they are occasional cyclists.

Rose said, "My target audience is, obviously, cyclists, but I do not want to be too specific about the groups of people I am interested in because people might self-exclude themselves, and I do not want that to happen."

The survey is not long, or complicated and does not require any personal details.

    Thanks

  9. HI

As a cyclist I second this motion, in fairness the massive pothole outside netto has been filled in since I reported it, but there has been many more I have also reported via the LCC tfl link that haven't even had an acknowledgement let alone any repair works done. Rye Lane is lethal.

  10. I'm on Goodrich too and can echo the earlier messages. However, despite working 5 mins from mount pleasant the post there is just the same. My sister posted me a parcel to work on the 10th, got it today - just glad she only sent me jam and not flapjack. We have been waiting for a heap of parcels for the last month and several seem to be suffering from lost card syndrome.
  11. HI

I am also waiting for stuff, thought I'd call the post office to see if the parcel was sat there but like the previous posts the guy told me about the back log. Interestingly though he did say that they were getting extra drivers in to clear the backlog over the next couple of days and would be hopefully getting everything out either tomorrow or Monday. He said if it hasn't turned up by Tuesday give them a call back.
