I'm a little confused to as why it's the end of the club.  Is it not possible to explore other venues?  Has this been explored? I'd have assumed this would have been one of the first things to look at as soon as notice was given rather put all eggs into one carton.

Apologies if I have missed this somewhere in the thread...

There’s no spare pool capacity. It was tight before the closure of the 50m pool at CP. it’s now impossible to find pool space to run a club in SE London.

I've heard it is not looking positive with respect to TigerSharks future at Alleyns.
Does anyone know any other clubs in the area suitable for teenagers who do not want to swim competitively but still would like structured sessions and to improve?

You could try https://sjsc.org.uk which swims once per week at Aleyn's (well, it used to ... who knows nowadays) and it's a non-competitive club for all abilities, kids of all ages orientated and their adults are welcome top swim with them. It's once per week and more fun than training, but it is coached and indeed coached to a very high standard.

Another alternative might be Brockwell Swimmers who also swim at Allen's (and elsewhere including the lido as the name suggests). Their sessions are much more in line with Tigersharks, but I don't know if they accept U18s. https://www.brockwellswimmers.com

Meanwhile, I really hope Tigersharks get something sorted out.

  3. Does anyone know …

    - is it just Tigersharks or are St James’s, Brockwell and SLSC, and Dulwich Dolphins, and Dc polo etc also being told to leave?

    - is it all the tigersharks sessions or specific ones?

I’m no fan of Alleyn’s. But they do seem to be assumed guilty here, without all the facts available.

  4. Are their plans up on the Southwark Planning Portal?

    https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/

This should show exactly what they are planning to do.

Permitted development doesn't apply to flats. To build an extension to a flat you must apply for planning permission.

    https://www.planningportal.co.uk/permission/common-projects/flats-and-maisonettes/extending-ground-floor-flat

Therefore the plans should be there.

Hello all, I'll be moving to SE22 soon and wondered if there is a better / faster broadband service with good customer service any of you would recommend, please?

Plusnet is very good. Very reliable, fast and apparently good customer service - but tbh I have never had to use it.

    Out of interest, why Memsaab?

I’ve found the food there the best (for us) of the local Indian offerings. I appreciate others may disagree etc. all the sauces are made off separate bases and they have nice little flavour touches - fresh herbs, whole spices etc.

  7. This is basically Gymkhana, transplanted into East Dulwich.

Food is superb. Wine list is fair. Cocktails lovely. Atmosphere buzzy.

Popadoms, 3  starters, 2 mains, 1 pilau rice, a pershwari naan and some potatoes. 2 cocktails, 2 wine. £136, incl service.

So it isn’t cheap, but for the quality of the food and drinks I would say it’s pretty good value.

We will be back! (But it won’t replace Memsaab as our go to curry house). It’s a very different proposition to the tandooris on the high street. And a very welcome addition to the neighbourhood, in my book.

  8. From memory the pavement in from of the shops and restaurants on the east side of LL is actually owned by the leaseholders and Southwark are not responsible for it. Or not for the majority of it. Thus coordination of any repair etc is very hard.

The pavement is very  uneven and puddles have been a problem for years when it rains. I’ve been here 15 years. And it was always an issue.

the leaves - they used to get swept up but there’s no money for that now. Personally I’d rather see them spend money on maintaining and cleaning the pavements instead of traffic consultations. I once suggested - when they were canvassing for ideas - that the cleaner greener safer fund could be directed towards keeping the pavements clear and safe but it was carefully explained to me that that isn’t what the fund is for!!!

write to whoever you like. Good luck. And I mean that!

i would recommend these, they give you a quote when you call them, collect it when they say they will and pay you the money into your account as soon as they have collected it.  They were recommended to me by my mechanic as my car was going to cost so much to get through the MOT, so needed to scrap it

Went with these in the end. Thanks all for the recommendations.

  10. I work for VCCP, the largest independent advertising agency in the UK. We make ads and buy media for the likes of Compare The Market, easyJet and Cadbury, Krispy Kreme, Calloway, Abbot Diabetes Care, Walkers crisps and Princess Yachts and everything in between.

We run an annual program called The Table. It provides a paid job to people who want to get into advertising and media. You do not have to have a degree.  But you must be new to the advertising industry.

More details on what it is and how to apply here

    https://www.vccp.com/applications-for-the-table-are-now-open

Good luck to anyone who applies.

  11. Sorry - I’ve been away for a couple of weeks.

    Thanks for helpful suggestions above.

Turns out, if you haven’t received your subscription pack and sticker you need to email [email protected]

    stating:-

    Your name (subscriber)

    Address (subscribed)

The transaction reference from the email you received confirming payment (mine is 2 numbers, a dash and five numbers) and / or the reference number from the Payment Complete page from the website (mine is GW- followed by six numbers).

If only there was a website where they could put this information - would have saved me 30 mins on the phone this am 🙂

    Good luck.

  12. Paid for the brown bin service back in February. Still no sticker.

Southwark website advises I contact them, but provides no contact details I can find except for emergency contacts for things like gas leaks.

    It’s definitely not an emergency.

Any ideas on who to email? Phone? Any other tips?

Anyone else not received their sticker?

Thanks in advance for any info.

  13. The booking system has basically stopped me even attempting to go swimming. I don't seem to be able to book anything. The whole system is very ableist. For health reasons, I can't predict if I will be able to go swimming at the pre-booked time, (if I could actually get a space) and would potentially have to cancel at very short notice, which I believe has some form of penalty.

Very many of the sessions free up an hour or two before they start. So sessions that were full a few days out, will in fact have space if you look an hour or so before the session starts. You should be fine for last minute swims. Also - they do not police the lanes, so if there's space in medium or fast, just book it and go in the slow lane when you get there. I've never, ever, seen the lanes actually full in any session since the booking things started.

  14. Several street bins have been removed.

    There was a bin ...

    - at the corner of North Cross Road and Lacon Road - gone

    - at the corner of North Cross Road and Fellbrigg Road - gone

    - outside the parade of shops on Whateley Road - gone (and now the dog poo bin opposite is overflowing with normal rubbish)

    - on the corner of Upland Road and Crystal Palace Road - gone

    - on Lordship Lane by the traffic lights outside Spinache - gone

Anyone know why? Or how / who to contact at the council?

Apologies if there's another thread - I looked but couldn't find one.

  15. Hello, is there any way or anywhere to find out about a job Conway are doing for Southwark?

There's a parking suspension notice and a Conway barrier outside my house, but the dates on the notice make no sense (22/2/22 - 29/11/22) and give no details of the works planned.

I've looked on Southwark's and Conway's websites and tried to speak to someone at Southwark, to no avail.

    Any ideas / advice?

  16. Hello. I work at VCCP, the advertising agency behind Compare The Market, O2, easyJet, Cadbury's, Dominoes, Go Daddy, Organic and may other brands.

Ad School is a week-long work experience opportunity for people aged 18+. The idea is to challenge the stereotype of normal work experience where you might shadow somebody or make tea/coffee, and instead give the Ad Schoolers a week of insight into life at an Ad agency and a live brief for them to work through.

There's more info on the week here

    https://www.vccp.com/news/2022/apr/apply-to-ad-school-2022

and applications are open now and close next Friday 20th May - here

    https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdLOdkvEF22xGcd8y8E_v_hbU3ACNG09zxCWtf9z462r0K7BA/viewform

NB: it is a Google form, so you need a google account to log-in and complete the form.

Applicants don't need any level of experience to apply, the week will run from 20th - 24th June and applications close on the 20th May.

Our offices are just off of Victoria Street (185 bus or direct train from Denmark Hill).

I hope this is helpful to someone interested.

    Good luck!
