  1. What actually happened please? The BBC article seems to indicate that people did drive in bus lanes but the penalty notices were coded wrongly when they were issued?
  2. My interpretation of Hen123's point is that cyclists are humans as are car drivers, pedestrians etc.... ...."he who is without sin, let him cast the first stone." Everybody does things that they shouldn't - pedestrians drop litter and graffiti walls, car drivers speed, use their phones and kill a disproportionate number of people when they're driving, bus passengers verbally abuse bus drivers etc. etc. I've been cycling to work pretty much every day in London now for over 25 years (I'm also a driver and a pedestrian!) and apart from a huge increase in volume of cycling, which I'm sure everyone welcomes because it cuts down on car usage, I don't see proportionally any worse cycling than I used to see 20 years ago when delivery cyclists on fixed bikes were decried by the Daily Mail for going through red lights and nearly knocking old ladies over. My commute to West London takes me 75 mins each way and last week I counted bicycles I passed and their misdemeanours. Of the 238 I counted one day, there were none cycling on the pavement and 12 that went through red lights. As per @Penguin68's post above - those cyclists going through lights are acting as pedestrians and not car drivers. Anyway, the law is the law whether people like it or not - you don't get to pick and choose which laws you follow. Cyclists should stop at red lights and not cycle on the pavements. Car drivers shouldn't use their phones and speed. Pedestrians shouldn't drop litter and graffiti walls. Bus passengers shouldn't verbally abuse bus drivers. Until the law changes people should follow it.
  3. @HeadNun - the Met Police used to periodically fine people cycling through the Greenwich foot tunnel and hand out FPNs with alacrity. Similarly, there used to be monthly Police checks by the Old Vic and one would see quite a few FPNs being issued. Unfortunately, what with cost pressures and the all encompassing crime wave that's spreading through Dulwich village since the LTN went in, I guess there just aren't the resources any more.
  4. @HeadNun - do let Google be your friend 🙂 Fixed penalty notices A fixed penalty notice is notice of a fine. You will receive a fixed penalty notice if you commit crimes such as littering or fly-posting. You can be given a notice on the spot or by post.  Who can give you a fixed penalty notice You can get a fixed penalty notice (FPN) from: Council officers both uniformed and non-uniformed Police officers and police community support officers Enforcement agents operating on behalf of the Council.
  5. Erm - you stop them in the road, take their ID details and give them a Fixed Penalty Notice as you would for any offence covered by FPNs, e.g. letting your dog foul , general littering etc. I don't think that there is a problem with the process.
  6. @Rockets - There is definitely some low hanging fruit here from a council revenue generation perspective! The law is the law irrespective of whether you agree with it or not. If you go through a red light then you open yourself up to be fined. Likewise with car drivers using their phones which is a more egregious issue
  7. That’s a great video. Really sums up how awesome cycling around London is
  8. @heartblock - thank you for your post. Yes - I'm sure that a cycle lane would necessitate the removal of parking to make it work, which is probably a step too far.
  9. @heartblock - I think it's everyone that drives along EDG that is messing up your road, but yes, there will be noticeably less traffic next week with the private schools on holiday. Do you know what happened to the proposal to put a cycle lane along EDG?
  10. @heartblock - completely agree. Utterly ridiculous that children are being driven to school. It's bad for people living on the roads, bad for the children and bad for everyone. The schools should do more. That said - the 'old days' were back-to-back tailbacks from JAGs and Alleyn's to the Melbourne Grove church. Thank goodness those days are gone.
  11. @Spartacus - now you’re just being silly!!! 🤣
  12. I had a fellow cyclist go into the back of me this week when I stopped at a red light as I was cycling along the Walworth Road. Poor lady got a bit of a shock and a scraped shin for her troubles. on the same trip along the Walworth road I nearly hit a pedestrian who stepped out into the road completely oblivious as they were glued to their phone and not paying the slightest of attention to the traffic a car also pulled out of a side road without looking properly and I nearly got hit for my troubles. And don’t get me started on the number of drivers using their phones as they drive 😡. Moral of the story - pedestrians, cyclists, drivers… …all as bad as each other!
  13. @Kathleen Olander I see exactly the opposite on East Dulwich grove to your observations. The traffic frequently tailed back to the church on the corner of Melbourne and EDG. This is something that never happens any more
  14. Barely used - all works well. Comes free with some rather questionable water features and pebbles!
  15. It’s brilliant isn’t it. My boys are up there with the big kids and having a wonderful day in the sun
