  1. Which hospital were you in? In St thomas's with a bit of pressure they were pretty good at teaching me to cup feed my premautre boy. They also use a technique where you tape a thin plastic tube to your finger and dip one end in to the milk. I found it very fiddly, and near impossible when sleep deprived. I found the cup easier, though also exhausting.
  2. Hi, My boy will be starting at the villa in a couple of weeks when he turns two (he'll be doing Weds-Fri) and I'm keen to find some other parents with kids already there or soon to start who might be interested in getting together.

Also very nervous about the settling in, sure he will be fine, just not sure about me!

  3. A really big thanks to all the wonderful toys and baby chairs donated for the refugee group. We drove the fullest car ever to Brixton yesterday, accompanied on the way by one toy singing, which was stuck under my foot!

Thanks so much for all your generosity. The group doesn't start until 18th June, but the kids that were there were very excited to see all the stuff!

  4. Oxleas wood is lovely, though there is a big road running near which you can hear at points. Eltham Palace is also lovely and very near so can be combined.

You used to be able to get the train directly to Falcolnwood from Nunhead/Peckham and that's on the edge of the wood. Not sure if the route still runs, but may well do.

  5. I was going to stop work at 35 weeks. Was a bit worried I'd get bored, but the little one beat me to it, and arrived at 34 weeks. No chance to say farewells or buy any of the baby stuff...but then there is so little you really need to start with.

Work nearly docked me the 2 weeks of annual leave I was meant to be taking before starting maternity leave (as maternity leave automatically starts when your baby arrives). Thankfully they managed to change their mind and gave me the two weeks at the end of my maternity leave.

There's no right answer, just see how you go.

  6. Hi Huggers,

Thanks, we have a car load going over next Friday (Sarah - R11 above is driving). Do you want to add your stuff to that, I can pop round and collect if you like, or you are welcom to pop round here? GIven you are so close to us, any chance I might be able to take you up on the car offer the next time we have a load? Alternatively, if you happen to be passing Brixton any way, the address is Ferndale Road (next to the post office - I've forgotten the door number) and my contact there is Rosa Barugh.

    Thanks again

  7. Hi All,

Thanks for the messages and PMs.

re: clothes - they've told me this morning that they have a fairly good stock at the moment, but I'll post when that changes.

Mascapone - That would fantastic, Sarah if you are reading this, can you PM her to collect? You can always drop it round to mine until we have a full load.

Aleih, Thanks - they have a stock of tea, coffee and biscuits but i'd really like to be able to provide fruit at the sessions for toddlers, Pm me if you are interested.

In all these great offers, I've only had a couple of actual toy offers, so if anyone else has stuff, do let me know.

At the planning meeting today, we also realised we could use some cushions or throws for the floor. So do get in touch if you have anything like that.

    Thanks all again.

  8. BeccaL

I'm off Adys Road, and the Refugee Council is just by the post office in Brixton (on a side street opposite the tube station just before you get to Brixton). It would be great if you might be able to drop. A friend has also just offered, but it would mean us going with both babies in the back....not leaving much room. Can we find a time convinient for you in a couple of weeks if I've managed to collect a good pile? Where abouts are you?

Bellenden Jo - you're just round the corner I expect from your name...Can you drop them round?

Alieh, - that sounds like a great plan. Though the idea is that we wont give out the toys, they will no doubt get worn out and it would be great to have more at intervals.

A friend has just offered to run a short music session as part of the group and asked that I make a particular request for instruments (drums, bells etc).

  9. Hello everyone,

I'm helping the Refugee Council in Brixton set up a mums and mums-to-be group.

They have some fairly sad toys at the centre and I was hoping to cheer up the collection with some donations.

If you have any pieces you are thinking of giving away, can you let me know?

Big things that can't get lost are probably best, but they could also use some more bouncey chairs for babies.

No soft toys though thanks, they have a few of those already.

Do PM or reply to thread if you can help.

I don't have a car so will be arranging a taxi at some point at the end of May to take them all over - but let me know if you can drop them directly to Brixton!

    Thanks all.
