Hi

So my midwife told me today that my baby is still breech and I need to get it to turn hopefully by next week or else I may have to try an ECV in hospital. :-$

I'm 36 weeks. I am feeling SO disappointed as first baby was c-section and I really, really want to have a VBAC this time.

Has anyone successfully got their baby to turn at this stage? any tips for me?

I don't think they will encourage a vaginal birth with baby still breech because of previous c-section.

Thanks

Ahhh I feel for you as I had this problem with my son, see my post :MY BREECH BABY I tried spinning babies, bouncing on my swiss ball, moxibustion, nothing... booked an ECV, and just before I was due to have the doctor turn my baby, my little man turned at the 11th hour!

Babies can keep turning until the birth so it is all just pot luck really whether baby will turn by itself in time for labour or whether you go through with the ECV.

Good luck!

30 weeks is too early, as baby can turn back again and keep turning. Generally an ECV is performed I think at 37 weeks as though some babies turn right up to when labour starts, other babies will have no room to turn so will be stuck in that position hence an ECV being performed. Though I was told that even if an ECV is successful some babies can turn breech again. It all depends on what the baby feels like doing! Mine just wanted to stress me!

yes!!

my son is 7 months now and I was breech right until the end too. I also tried everything - including moxibustion. (in fact I have lots of those charcoal sticks left so I can give them to you so you can do it yourself.)

I initially went to see Dan at Dulwich Therapy rooms for the moxibustion and then continued the process at home - the first few times my bub definitely moved but there after it didn't bother him at all.

I chatted at length to my midwives to continue with a natural breech delivery but then gave in to the idea of an ECV - which was successful. Another lady in my NCT class was also breech and her ECV was also a success. I found the ECV very painful, but she found it was fine.

Looking back I am completely happy that I went along with the ECV option. I was nervous but was initially seen by Laila Fahael at Kings who explained everything to me and then the lady who preformed the ECV was ... I forget the name .. but she was an Indian lady and she was amazing. She's very professional and very confident and I liked her bedside manner. You've just got to remain calm and confident that it'll go your way - and I'm quite sure it will (don't worry about the stats for now ;-)

All the best and good luck

At Kings in the scanning bit (suite 8 Jubilee Wing, think is where the ante-natal scans are done), there is a sign up with a number to call if you have a baby in the breech position after a certain stage, think is 36 weeks or something, presumably so that women can discuss the options and arrange any late-on scans, though your midwife might already have done this.

My daughter was breech, but it wasn't diagnosed until I was in labour, had C-section, though at least didn't have the stress of trying to get her to turn etc.

Hope your little one turns round and stays there!

Hi Darlin. Sorry you're having this worry. I posted on Heidi's thread, so will be brief here.

I think that the success rates for ECV are much higher for second babies than first? And also the likelihood that baby will turn on its own closer to due date. Something to do with there being more space in the uterus or something, so they're more likely to spin later in the pregnancy.

I have the book on Breech Birth by Benna Waites that is by far the best research I came across - you are welcome to borrow it if you want to read up?

In the meantime, moxibustion/acupunture is worthwhile and maybe reading up on the best timing of the ECV so that you can have it as late as possible, giving baby time to turn on his/her own?

Thanks everyone

I have been reading your previous thread with interest Heidi Hi- some really good advice in there too.

I got my Moxibustion sticks today and am going to give those a go (somewhere where the builder can't see what I'm doing!!) and spend some more time up-side-down as suggested on the Spinning Babies website. Got to say, it's much harder than I anticipated- mainly due to the fact my head feels like it will explode from all the pressure!

Thanks for the advice all and I will let you know if it works!

Around the beginning of ED  gentrification,  someone opened a champagne bar near the entrance. I think it also sold oysters, though there was another oyster place in the market, possibly not at the same time. Whether it did or not, unsurprisingly it didn't last long. I can't imagine they had done any market research, or even wondered why anybody would want to drink champagne in that kind of environment. I'm not sure an indoor market would work now, but what do I know. It would depend on what it sold and whether people wanted what it sold, I suppose. It wouldn't get much passing trade in Zenoria Street, so it would have to be very well advertised.
