Has anyone encountered problems with Southwark whilst trying to downsize?

I live in a three bedroom property and have been on the housing list to downsize to a two bedroom since 2010. I finally found a property I liked and bid. Two days after being told I was the first on the list to view the two bedroom, I received a letter stating because I am not a pensioner and the bedroom tax policies, I could no longer bid on a two bedroom property. This is despite the fact I have an adult daughter living with me, work full time and am trying to give up a bedroom.

I am unsure how to move forward with this or who to contact for help.

Any advice would be appreciated.

is your daughter officially recognised as being a authorised person to live in your property?

If Housing Dept has you as living by yourself they would prevent you bidding for a 2 bed property.

If the above does not apply - contact your Resident Officer (Housing Officer) and try and get more information re the letter. failing that your local councillor.

    • Franklins is lovely but it usually only has one veggie option, so if your vegetarian doesn't like it they might  find it hard to find something else. So it might be worth checking out in advance what's on the menu on the night you want to book. Maria's is also lovely, but it's very small. I didn't think they had a table large enough for 8, but reading the above I'm obviously wrong!
    • We live in East Dulwich and often to go Rye Lane. I know people say there are good restaurants near Rye Lane.  Does anyone have recommendations for good places for lunch or dinner?  We like Manze for pie & mash at lunch. And I've been to Peckham Bazaar in the past, which was excellent.  Thanks!
    • My husband is currently a full-time carer for our two disabled children, and he’s keen to get back into paid work where he can fit it around our family needs. He’s immediately available and looking for local handyman work — from snagging and DIY jobs to gardening or general fixing-up. He’s capable, practical, and reliable, with plenty of hands-on experience restoring and maintaining, including with heritage/listed properties. If you have a to-do list you never quite get to, or need help with those annoying finishing touches, he’d be happy to help. Please drop him a message if you’d like to chat or check availability. 07968345884
