Elephant and Castle update please

Got a late gig tonight which necessitates the car. Have avoided Elephant for about five months, but normally it is my quickest route to Crouch End. Has anyone dared driven down there recently via New Kent Road approach and if so, has anything improved?

I chanced this last night. Approach to E&C from Old Kent Road was OK. The drive around the actual x-roundabout, a bit slow. The real queues were where traffic double looped from E&C to Blackfriars turnoff, with a tail back as cars (not that many, but still jammed) couldn't get into the left hand lane to turn to Waterloo or Blackfriars Bridges till the very last minute, due to bus lane going right up to the junction. The journey took one and a half hours and normally takes about 50 minutes.
