This sounds a little like the VW ad

I have a Meile, you'll love it

Oh how quiet it spins as we're in bed

Our washing machine blew up (almost literally) this weekend resulting in having to purchase a new one. Went through Argos, not sure if the promotion is still running, but saved ?68 off the full price, and bought a Beko, arrived this morning and all seems quite straightforward (the model that is). Yet to report on the cycle...

Tum de dum....stuck at home awaiting the delivery....have a bucket full of nappies all ready to be washed....am sadly very, very overexcited about the impending arrival, probably the most excitement since baby C arrived!!

I am a very sad person.

The Final Chapter.....

I suppose I should finish off the story, which I can now do calmly...

New Machine arrived Friday as promised. I didn't pay the extra to have it plumbed in because I have installed at least 3 WM's myself in the past......men left and once children in bed I tried to remove the 'transportation rods' (all machines have these in the back to hold the drum during transit and avoid damage). They are normally easy to unscrew and take out....not these ones....after a good deal of swearing, checking the instructions, bending the metal tool they sent with the machine, and heaving with all my might, no progress whatsoever.

Called plumber friend who came around and he tried - still no joy.

Phoned Miele, who suggested one of us press on the drum whilst other moved the rods...still no joy (even using Mole Grips which clamp on to the rods).

I am now feeling very upset that very shiny new machine is actually of no use whatsoever, and huge pile of washing now cannot be done as planned.

Saturday morning phone Miele again - very helpful and say an engineer can come this Friday to hopefully sort it out, but suggest I also call Comet to give them the chance to resolve the problem.

So...phone Comet with sinking heart expecting rubbish customer service.....but....within 2 hours their transport depot had called back, said these rods are renowned for being difficult to remove, and that they have a special tool they use to get them out.....promise that a man will be around with said tool Sunday morning between 8am and midday.

Sunday...8.12am man phones and says he will be with me in about 30 mins...and he is...despite pouring rain!

His 'special tool' turns out to be a very large screwdriver(!!), and he has the bolts out within 5 minutes...in fairness to my plumber friend I expect he could have done it had we both been confident about the force needed, but we were worried about damaging the machine. This chap had done it before and knew exactly what to do. Part of the problem was that one rod had bent slightly (which again is common so he said), so needed a bit of a wiggle as it came out.

Bless him, he then plumbed the machine in for me (taking pity on me as hubby away with work again, and me with 2 children hanging on my coat tails and no chance of plumbing it in 'til later despite the pile of laundry that was waiting). It was one of those moments when I could have hugged him, but instead restrained myself and gave him a ?5 to have a pint on me (what a very, very nice man)!!!

So, finally, by about 9am Sunday I had a load of washing on (and machine is so quiet you wouldn't even know it was going!).

REALLY, really pleased with it, but if ever you decide to buy a Miele I would recommend you pay the extra to have it installed!

Am going to feed all this back to Miele, and also to Comet as I really think they should make people aware of this, and also Miele should improve the tool they provide, and make the rods easier to get out in the first place.

What a saga...why does it always happen to me?

    • Agreed! I have been happy with them for the last 20 years.
    • Hi,   I'm posting here because I am completely at a loss for how to deal with this anymore.   Is this standard for dealing with a letting agency? I'm new to living in the UK and I've been treated abhorrently by this agency from day one.  I've reached out to every organisation I can - the council, Shelter, trying to get to the property ombudsman, and the citizens advice bureau. My oven broke last night (Friday) and their solution until someone arrives (Monday) to even inspect the problem, is to buy an air fryer.    This is part of a long list of issues, including my bathtub joist that's rotted out and has broke so my bathtub is now falling into the floor, and has been that way waiting for repair for the last month. Our flat is extremely cold in the winter (due to failing the EPC) and the rising damp throughout the flat has not been addressed even though we've been reporting it consistently for the past year. All they do is send someone to install a dehumidifier for a week. Every time I need assistance from these people I have to wait on hold each step of the way, my property manager is out of office or they're on another line or I can't speak to them, if I begin an issue with one person at the organisation I get redirected to a new person (and that initial person is now unavailable), or they wait a week to call me back. It is truly unbelievable the amount of stuff I've had to live with under Foxtons. They wouldn't allow me to move into our property on the first day stated in the lease I signed (after I paid depot and first month) because they didn't do the work to make the property pass the EPC which they had multiple weeks to address. During those multiple weeks I would call them everyday asking for status updates. When the move in day arrived all they could say to me was 'we can't help you'. They didn't even do any work to resolve it in the long run, they just got a new inspector to give the flat a pass. This company has made my life hell for the past year and unfortunately I am stuck in the lease for now due to their shady letting agent practices.   If anyone can please provide me some tangible assistance that would be greatly appreciated. Reaching out to any of these agencies has not brought me any closer to a resolution and my partner and I are beyond our wits end dealing with property issues. I thought a letting agency was held to a higher standard than a private landlord and was supposed to make life easier for a tenant but it appears to be exactly the opposite.   I've attached some mold images so you can see what my flat looks like if I don't run a dehumidifier 24/7.
    • The pool and showers were a good temperature yesterday.
    • This is the right sort of response from the BBC (Friday night comedy).  Well done.  Please listen before commenting. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0mfx7h4
