Oh dear - I'm of the lazy mum school of parenting. I'm off to Greenwich Picture House for the baby - friendly 'big scream' movie. This week it's Helen Mirren and James McEvoy in a film about Tolstoy's life and legacy.

I'll probably fall asleep after 10 minutes after the night I've had.

Starts at 11.30am.

Snowboarder - me too! The last few films we've tried to see with toddler I've spent most of the time either:

- apologising to our neighbours as she climbs over their laps

- running up and down the stairs, hunched over like Quasimodo, after her

- likewise with the big, as she sees it - running track, just in front of the screen

- or playing with the automatic doors into the car park (after I've totally given up!)

Does anyone know what age they actually start behaving and watching the film? I've seen the first 10 mins of so many films now!

ClareC - Greenwich, Brixton and, I think, CLapham all do 'Big Scream' films. It costs a pound to become a member, then you can go until your child is 1 year old. Just double check my info when you get a chance as the site is down at the mo, so I can't double check myself.

But there's a film every Wed at 11.30 and they have a good range between the popular blockbusters and more high brow stuff.

It's hiilarious going there - women with their boobs out bfing and babes crawling everywhere. Totally chaotic, but very friendly and welcoming. I've seen the odd chap there too - but they kept a very low profile and sat very low in their seats ;-)

My kids have been able to manage short animated films from about age three onwards. Test them out at home with a film first though!! I'm just waiting for my littlest one to 'come of age' then we can all go to the cinema on a rainy saturday afternoon...not that we get many of those in this country....

    • In case anyone is renovating or stripping out an old kitchen, I am looking for a base kitchen unit or carcass to house an oven for a temporary set up kitchen.   Also looking for a run of worktop at least 180 cm long if anyone is disposing of something like this, I would be happy to collect.   thanks   Mila
    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
