hi. baby ko has eczema. no surprise as mummy suffers a lot from it. i've heard many a time that you can put oats in a sock/muslin and swish it in bath water.

my question is - do you use new oats each time? and how much should you use? silly questions really, but any tips would be appreciated!

many thanks in advance xxx

Hi Ko,

New oats every time as whatever it is that helps the eczema will then come out of them in the bath, and so will not be in them next time. Also they will go moldy if left in the muslin.

I got some Aveeno sachets from Kristal Pharmacy in Nunhead that are oats and stuff for eczema and seem good too (but do make the bath slippy so you have to be a bit careful).

This page is quite helpful;

The stuff I got is Aveeno Baby Colloidal (sp?). So pretty much the same stuff but ready prepared.

I have heard of people using oats without blending as discussed, so you could maybe try both methods and see which works best for you?

I put a new handful in a sock every time. Made a huge difference to my little one. Also camomile tea bags or rooibos tea bags - both known for treating skin issues.

Second Molly - aveeno cream is lovely too.

I had to go to the dor for my son and they prescribed me with epiderm which is heavy but worked wonders.

Another thing to consider thou - thrush is common in babies and easily mistaken for eczema especially in all the fat rolls and again doc gave me timodine.

My baby suffered terribly on his face and head and dry skin over his body. He was so bothered by it that he would be itching day and night and it affetced every aspect of his development. We eventually saw a skin doctor who gave me Doublebase emollient for the bath and cream for his face and body and it cleared up within a few days and has stayed away, other than a tiny patch on his upper lip which I put hydrocortisone on. He is a totally different baby now and is happy and giggly all the time. I had to go back to the GP several times before I got a referral to the skin doctor though - so request a specialist straightaway.

    • Sadly, your experience seems pretty typical to me. Estate agents must surely be a dying breed. Apart from adding your photos to Rightmove, and setting up a few appointments, what do they actually do? We sold our house last year, over £10k in estate agents fees, for appalling service, rude, patronising, as you said zero proactivity, zero feedback, I was constantly chasing. Just avoid any beginning with W, that would be my advice.
    • A friend works for Lambeth cleaning the streets, there is a team and they work round all roads in their area, clearing weeds growing between paving and edges etc, as well as the rubbish people leave. There is so much work that he usually works weekends as well. If you live around the Gypsy Hill area/ West Dul/ Tulse Hill area, you'll very likely have nice clean and tidy pavements.
