Hi, I've recently had the test for the brca gene mutation and had a positive result for BRCA 1. I have a long family history of both breast and ovarian cancer and planning to have a preventative oophorectomy and double mastectomy in the not too distant future. There are lots of support groups out there however I am wondering if there are any other ladies locally who are in the same boat and part of this small group and who might like to get together for coffee? It would be lovely to meet others facing the same issues of surgery, telling children, surgical menopause etc etc! Please pm me if interested. Anna X

Just bumping this as I didn't want to read and run. A friend of mine went through multiple surgeries a few years ago for a high risk breast cancer diagnosis. Her consultants at the Marsden were amazing and completely supportive with all her decisions, including double mastectomy, and having her nipples rebuilt and tattooed back as hearts! She has since moved out of London with her family, and she is doing well.

I hope you are able to find the support you need. Maybe it's worth posting in the Family Room too, as the family roomers seem to have a lot of accumulated knowledge on all things breast-related. xx

There's a long running thread on Mumsnet that deals almost exclusively with breast cancer .

You may find the on line support helpful and possibly could locate people near who might like to meet up .

Good luck .

    • Nice to see the property is going to reopen with a Newish business, good luck to them.
    • Of course they do, watching cookery shows and buying cook books is a national pastime. However you raise a good point that some people claim they are time poor and end up eating out / takeaways as sometimes a quick macciedee is cheaper and easier than making a quick nutrious family meal.  However to put it in balance, not many people have the knowledge, confidence and time to cook Persian so good luck to team persepolis on this venture.
    • London doesn’t have a lot of Argentinian places specialising in empanadas, which suggests demand isn’t that great. There are many neighbourhoods with none at all or even nearby.  So for a mini-chain like Chango (several branches in SW London) to open here where there’s already a well established family run place doing the same feels a bit off.  I’ll be giving Chacarero my ongoing custom.
